Hello,

I have noticed that Nature's Variety Instinct canned 5.5 oz LID rabbit is out of stock and has been for some time through Chewy.com and Amazon. Does anyone know why and if it will come in soon? Any idea where I can get it?

My kitty (He has IBD) likes the rabbit, but he only has had the regular rabbit (not LID) though. That one is in stock so if I wanted to get that I could. He's never tried the LID of it and I want to try it.

I've been giving him the LID lamb in the meantime here hoping it would come in stock by now, but it hasn't and he's barely eating it, he hasn't liked it as much for sure.

Any ideas?

I think there is still a shortage of rabbits. Do not ask me why. I remember, a while ago, I called NV directly. The excuse I was given was they are 're-formuating' their food; and that the stores should be catching up with the new formula soon.

Of course, I did not believe that. I was able, about a month ago to get a case from Chewy.

You can also try Pet360..or even Amazon if you are stuck. I found out Pet360 takes a longer time to ship; about 2 weeks to get your order.

You can try other brands of rabbit. I just tried Wild Calling (very expensive). The only place I could find it was at Pet360. I give it to my guy as a treat. He will not eat an entire can..about 1/2 is enough for him. But he gets fussy with his food, so it is a good option.

I hate to say the, in case there is a shortage from NV, but I give my guy the Pride rabbit. It is a mixture of pork along with rabbit and has some veggies in it. I know it is not ideal, but it is what he will eat.

Also Hound and Gatos has rabbit; however I think it is a bit bland.

Good Luck.

If you have a petco near you I would check there. I just bought some for my cats not that long ago. I buy about 2 or 3 pallets at a time, as well as 2 large bags of he dry. Petco I think over supplies their food so you might have better luck going there. People who over stock on cat food like me might be why there is a shortage

Petco doesn't sell NV Instinct LID rabbit canned although they carry two other LID canned foods.

When I use NV LID rabbit canned, I'm able to get it at my indy store in NYC, no shortages here. I would check local indy's in your area.

A few years ago we couldn't get it either due to a rabbit shortage they had said. It took a very long time, like 5 months, before we were able to get more rabbit. Hopefully this delay won't be as long.

The only part I don't like about their rabbit based food is apparently they get their rabbits from and processed in China then mixed in with the other stuff in the USA.

I'm not sure where you read that info re: NV's rabbit from China - NV switched over their rabbit sourcing from China to France back in Spring of 2014. Wherever you read that info, obviously the site has not updated it in the past year.

There was never a problem with their rabbit sourcing from China as far as any contamination b/c NV had strict oversight of the facility in China, however, due to customer concerns over pet food from China, NV switched their sourcing to France.

Give NV's customer service a call to verify, if need be.
