Hi

My girl Henri is 9 and on Friday she was diagnosed with kidney disease. She is in a moderate stage (numbers are shown differently in UK and US blood tests so I won't bore you) and was prescribed special food and Fortekor.

Passed my first shock and sadness, I decided to work hard on maintaining her healthy for as long as possible.

Having spoken to some friends in Brazil who had cats in the same situation, they told me wonders about feeding them coconut water. I can see that - the electrolytes are there at our disposal. They had great experiences to share about their cats who lived several years after being diagnosed.

But I have no idea of how much and, even more importantly, how to give her coconut water! I just put some in a little bowl, she was very curious and sniffed it, but soon turned her back to it and is simply not interested.

I don't think I can mix it with her water because she drinks from a fountain and I think the coconut water could damage the filter and maybe we would lose its properties?

Any advices?

I can't tell you how much, and I would really recommend that you discuss it with your vet before trying it.

As to how - the easiest way might be to mix a little into her wet food. Please run it past your vet first though.
