Hi there,

My cat Kal had p/u surgery a month ago today. He is really doing fantastic, and seems to be himself again. At our last check up the vet said that we could remove the cone and life should go on as normal with urnianalysis checks every few months to watch for crystals. He is on Royal Canin Urinary SO wet food and actually enjoying it and eating about a can a day, sometimes a little more(he is 14 lbs).

What my concern is, is that I am completely freaked out about stricture and am afraid to leave his cone off all the time. When I have it off while I am at home with him, He definitely licks at the area. It isn't  all the time but I catch him every once in awhile hanging out down there. It could be that he is just checking out his new gear as it never appears to be irritated, but I guess I am wondering if there is still a chance something could go wrong from him licking. As I said, it is never really that aggressive other than after he goes tot eh bathroom and cleans himself and the random 2 second lick.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated for this seriously stressed/freaked out cat mommy. This was NOT an easy process and has been a month long recovery, albeit very worth it.

:)

I'm so glad to hear Kal is doing so well. That's fabulous to hear, since not all cats have a good outcome.  And even better that he likes the food

Have you asked your Vet if there could be any issues with him licking?   I honestly don't know, and the surgery isn't that common, so not sure if you will get any responses from folks who've had it done to their furbuddies.

Thanks so much for getting back to me! You know to be honest, we really aren't thrilled with the service we are getting from our vet. We are going to make the switch to another who is thankfully less than a block away from the old one. A lot of unanswered questions...

When I brought up the licking they told me to put the cone back on. But honestly wouldn't that mean that kal would have to wear the cone all the time when I am not home? I don't feel like thats a good answer. I think it's probably a judgement call and I will watch the area to see if his licking is irritating it.

What a crazy process!
