Hi. I have a 9 year old cat, Crash that quit basically quit eating. He LOVED food. Weighed about 15 lbs and now.. Very little. His spine sticks out and stomach sinks in.

If I continue to force feed with a syringe, will he be OK? I've been trying baby food and wet food in a syringe 4 times a day.

Just two weeks ago or a week he was fine. But he's been throwing up now and then for months. I thought it was just from grooming the other cat

I really noticed it this past week. 98% of the time he will stare at any food.but he still wags his tail and I can get him to play now and then. He still comes up and sleeps with me. He goes back and forth with having interest to none.

He quit meowing and used to Meow a lot. Loved to talk and follow me around.

I can't afford a vet (even low cost). I just lost my job and trying to help my dad who recently diagnosed with cancer.
I feel horrible!!

Also, I read Megace is used in cats for short term to get them to eat. My dad has this for his cancer so he eats. Could I give my cat a SMALL dosage?

I can't get him to a vet for about 2 weeks when I'm paid unemployment. I called all around and no one has free exams.

Well I think you know he needs a vet. I know you are desperate to help your baby but please don't give him your dads medicine. I had a cat with really bad dental problems and she would do the same just stare at the food and not eat because her mouth was painful. The vet told me to bring her back if her mouth was painful and she told me that what cats do when their mouth is in pain just stare at the food and after some hesitation try to eat. Can you see what your cats mouth looks like? Is there anyway you can get the money to get your cat to the vet sooner?

I would get high quality kitten food and feed him with a syringe every 2 hrs. Start with a small amount. You want to make sure he is keeping it down. Cats lose weight very fast. I would look for a low cost vet to give subq fluids as you probably can't give him enough with syringe. Please update with any other symptoms or any progress. Good luck.

He needs a vet it could be many things that are making him sick some very serious. Is he eating? Is he drinking water?

I asked some friends for help and they're seeing if they can help financially.

I thought that about his teeth also because he wasn't eating hard food and very little wet. But would like tilt his head. Teeth/mouth looks OK.

Oh, then he's still interested in cat nip!

He's drinking water. Very little. I have to convince him and put ice cubes in it :-) but he will drink milk quickly.

It's like you can tell he's hungry. Cause if I open can food, he will come to me and stretch and give me that "food for me" look.

He went pee today.

It may be his teeth and you just can't see it. Please see if you can get him to the vet soon becuase it could be a bad infection or virus somewhere in his body or a parasite. It's good he is peeing as you need to look out for blockages with male cats too. Just FYI regular milk may give him diarrhea. If he drinks milk do you think you can mix some wet food in to see if he will eat it? At least he will get some nutrients.

Oh. I don't know if this means anything. But he doesn't lay down as he used to (sprawled out).

He will begin to lay down on his side and then half way down he will freeze. Like he forgot how to lay down.

He mostly sits on all 4's more hunched, like irritated looking (if that makes sense)

Milk isn't the best but if he will drink it you can try lactose free milk mixed with canned food. my sick cat lived on that for awhile before he passed away. Vet said it was not great but ok if he would eat it. If your cats not eating please try that until you can get him care.

Good morning! So last night he threw up all good fed to him and he was very lethargic.

Maybe he had a flu? This morning he sprung back to life! He ate a half can of wet food by his self & drank lots of water.

Plus, he started to Meow again. Following me around the house. More peppy and interested in stuff (rubbing his head on stuff, sniffing)

I'm still going to take him to the vet.

I meant, he threw up all the food fed to him at 3am. I think I over worked him with trying different foods.

I know how worried you must be about your poor kitty. It is sad when they become ill and we feel hopeless in helping them. I do hope your friend can help and you can get Crash to a vet. I do hope it is something simple and can be treated. Cats get sick so quickly and things can escalate rapidly. They may appear fine again for a day or two and then become ill again. That was the case with my cat. I truly hope your kitty has a better outcome.
All the best to you and your kitty!
Let us know if you get him to a vet and what the vet says.
We all care!
Also, so sorry to hear about your dad's illness.
I know how devastating it can be when bad things happen at once.
