This sweet pretty girl showed up on our door step early this week. We've done some searching for her home but have had no luck and have decided to keep her. We've had her checked over by the vet who thinks she's likely due within a week or so. She'll be spayed asap after the kittens arrive. Can you share how you've successfully found good homes for the kittens you've fostered? Thanks in advance!

I hope so too. I'm not sure if she is, but I'm definitely a "first timer". Thank you for the great info! I'm sure it will come in handy.

Your cat is definitely pregnant. You need to be feeding her kitten chow and quality wet cat food. Also, please make a nest for her.

The kittens should not be re-homed for a minimum of 8 weeks, and preferably 10-12, as the mom teaches them kitten manners.

Mom is not spayed for a minimum of 8 weeks after the kittens are born, but do not allow her outside, as she can go back into heat very soon after the kittens are born.

We've got great articles on pregnancy, delivery, and kitten care, and please ask questions as they arise. This is one lucky kitty to have found you!

Welcome to TCS! :)

Thanks. I have a shallow box with towels in one corner and a cat carrier in another corner. Both are warm, dark places in our basement. She seems to be quite cozy down there (she can be away from our dog) but will come upstairs for some love. She's the most personable and loving cat I've ever met. She loves the kids too. Hopefully she'll do great but I've been reading through some of your threads/articles just in case....thank you for the info.

Thank you so much for taking her in!

Have you checked with local rescue organizations or your local Humane Society?

I've only checked with one so far. She's a local rescue lady and said she may be able to take the kittens when they're of age. Right now she's full though. There are 2 more places I can check and our vet has some names too. I have been getting the word out and have had a couple people express interest, we'll see. We'll be keeping Mom who we've named Maddie. :)

Update: So we've had Maddie now for 2 full weeks. She arrived 2 weeks ago on our doorstep, apparently abandoned and very pregnant. We plan on getting her spayed as soon as it's advisable after her delivery.

15 days ago the vet thought she would deliver in a week or two....I'm waiting (admittedly impatiently) with no obvious signs of labor.

We have her in a safe place in our basement with all of her necessities and 3 nesting boxes. She loves to hang out down there but comes up for occasional cuddles, she's very personable and sweet.

A question :
I'm giving her 2-3 cans of fancy feast/day and 2tbsp of the powdered pet ag KMR mixed with water. There is always dry kitten food and water available to her. She seems to eat nearly all or most of everything per day. Should she be getting less...more? Thoughts?

I'll continue to update this thread when (if) the kittens arrive. ;)

She should be allowed to eat as much as she wants while pregnant and nursing. She needs the calories and nutrients and should not be limited. Kittens also should eat as much as they want when they begin weaning, and for the first 6 months.

She'll give birth soon :).

How accurate do you think ultrasounds are during late term in determining an estimated due date?......I'm thinking our vet must have missed the mark.

Still happy, eating a lot and VERY pregnant.

It's not unusual for the vet to be off when estimating from an ultrasound or x-ray.   If she isn't in distress, no need for worry.
