Hello! I am on the search (and not having great luck) with looking for a healthy, "all-natural" wet cat food that is not pate and not too heavy on gravy/sauce. Doesn't really matter if it's shredded or flaky or cubed my cat will just NOT eat pate foods (and I don't blame him). So far I have Earthborn, Tiki Cat, Lotus Just Juicy (which is too pricey) the Natural Balance pouches and stews, and I've looked at but not too keen on the Wellness pouches and shredded and the Castor & Pollux shredded (carrageenan) and Weruva Paw Lickin' formulas are a bit pricey. Anything I'm missing? Has anyone used the AvoDerm shredded? Because none of the websites that sell it have any reviews.

Thanks so much! :)

I guess it depends on what all your parameters are.  Looks like carrageenan is out.  Money is somewhat of an issue.  Anything else?

Soulistic is fairly inexpensive (I guess that's subjective
.   I really like Earthborn, but I see it's already on your list.

Weruva has a lot of different varieties. The cats in the kitchen are a pretty good value for the money. My cats like Fowl Ball better than paw lickin chicken. What about Nutro natural choice minced or chunky varieties? Or Natural Instinct Pride flaked/cubed?

You can find reviews for most anything, including pet food, on Amazon.com and their related inernational sites
PetFoodDirect.com has some reviews of Avoderm. Also Chewy.com has some reviews.

OnlyNaturalPet.com is a good place for healthy foods http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/search/cats/food/canned Browse what's there and check the pet food company website for more info about the product.

Yuo can feed mostly inexpensive bands and add in the occasional expensve brand for variety
Lots of people do that if they can't afford the expensive stuff.

There are some threads about carrageenan free foods: http://www.thecatsite.com/newsearch?search=carrageenan+free This one is fairly recent: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/240335/canned-food-without-carrageenan-or-guar-gum

Any of the Weruva lines plus Soulistic, Tiki Cat, Pride by Instinct are good choices. See this picture for what several different canned foods look like: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ninga/sets/72157630596066364 There are some non pate foods shown.

Thanks all so much for the input! (I always forget to check Only Natural Pet because I'm silly) I'm mostly looking for chunky/shredded that doesn't have carrageenan or both guar and xantham gum (don't mind if it had one or the other) I also prefer Grain Free. I think I had Tiki Cat, Earthborn, Lotus, and Natural Balance on my original list. Does anyone have any experience with Catswell Nutrisca, PureVita, Redbarn Naturals, or Addiction?

It's been a while, but Addiction was a pate or at least a very ground up consistency.  I had a cat once who wouldn't eat anything like that either, and while there are more non-pate foods than there used to be, there are still relatively few that are on the more natural end and not gravy and such.  It can be rather tricky to know what might be in the various brands of cans before opening them!

Tiki Cat is really good if you avoid the fish.  Very expensive, but, make sure when you do your price comparisons that you consider the calories per ounce or a similar like to like comparison, rather than just can to can.  You may find that it gets closer to your budget range if you include that.  For example I feed Tiki Puka Puka chicken, which is just shredded chicken in a broth sort of liquid, and the 6oz cans of this have 220 calories.  Some similarly sized cans of cat food can have as few as half that many!  To get it cheapest you have to order online, but Tiki comes in packs of 8 cans so you don't need to buy 24.  Cheapest is usually Chewy.com or PetFlow.com (the latter will group two packs of 8 for an additional savings, and additional savings on automatically shipped orders every so often.)

Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen line can be another good choice.  These also come in 6oz cans and the varieties Chicken Frick a Zee  (all chicken) or Fowl Ball (chicken and turkey) have the highest calories in that line at roughly 150 per can. Beware of hidden tuna in some of those, well not exactly hidden but the names of some of the other varieties do not suggest fish but some do have tuna in there.  The one that says Lamb is one I remember off the top of my head, has some lamb in it but mostly tuna.

Those two are the main non-pate foods I've fed recently.

Right now I've been feeding him Earthborn canned only (he's about 2.5 and due to funds and lack of knowledge before he was on a kibble only diet) I like Earthborn in general and I really like their canned because it always has lots of meat, the sauce seems pretty light and (recently removed) no carrageenan and not to mention he LOVES it. Price isn't TOO much of an issue because I feed my animals a combination of kibble, canned, and raw I'm just looking for some more brands to add in because I like to keep my animals on a rotational diet including mixing up brands and protein sources :) just trying to do the best by my babies

Is it just the Petco Soulistic pouches that are meaty and chunky or the canned too?

I've fed limited Soulistic foods but pouches and canned both seem meaty/chunky/shreddy. Our cats love them but since they have a little more carby "gravy" than I like to feed, they only get them occasionally.

Our cats like some of the shreddy foods others have mentioned: Tiki Cat (especially Gourmet Carnivore, which have chunks and shreds), Cats in the Kitchen cans (reasonably priced), and Nutro Natural Choice sliced turkey and minced chicken. Tiki's expensive but I find the cats get filled up nicely on it.

The Soulistic cans are NOT pate, not sure exactly what you would call them though.  It's been a while since I've bought them, but seems like the ones with chicken are shredded, but in a gel type sauce that you have to break up.     if you get the ones that are "in gelee", they are low in carbs.  The ones in gravy are much higher in carbs.

Oh, that's right, I forgot about those "gelee" Soulistic foods! Our cats really gobbled one of those up (I think I'd gotten the chicken/fish one as a rare fish treat) but then one was so gurgly and gassy that I never gave it to them again.
You're right, those are pretty low-carb.
