Has anyone ever heard of or tried the new Pretty Litter?  I just ran across an ad/promotion for it online.

It is a crystal litter that changes color when your cat pees to detect signs of urinary problems before they become major!

It looks very interesting and is supposed to be comparable in price to regular litter. Plus, it is scoopable AND flushable!

Here is the YouTube video:

I think this is a very old French product that some folks from a TV show (called Startup U) are repackaging.

The product they're actually selling is called Nullodor Health indicator.  Here is an old advertisement for it:
In addition to the all the product features being identical, it looks like they are using the French company's package design too.

See  and compare to the "new" product, Pretty litter at
I'll let you draw your own conclusions about whether this matters or not, but figured I'd chime in to explain this is nothing new.

Oh that's pretty interesting how they have done it. Though I don't think it should affect the quality of it.

This video popped up on my Facebook Newsfeed today. I think it looks super cool, but I wonder... they call it "scoopable." But is it clumping? Technically, all litter is scoopable, since you scoop poop.

Also, I've tried those crazy "crystal litters" and OMG the smell of urine was terrible. Never again. This looks very "crystal-ish" to me. Plus, I love my Arm & Hammer Litter. :)

I do think the concept is really cool though. I'm a total hypochondriac when it comes to my cats.

Clumping litters are perfectly safe for adults cats and older kittens. Ingestion usually isn't an issue once the kittens are past taste testing everything ;)

I suppose you just head straight to the vet in panic mode if you go away for a day or two, and possibly come home to a litter box which contains ALL of the colors at once, all mixed together?! (e.g I wonder if that's ever happened :))

Also, some antibiotics change the pH of a cat or kitten's system... that should probably be taken into account by a cat owner if using this litter, if that kind of thing changes the color of the silica?

Sounds interesting and useful. I definitely would wait until it's in the big market before I try it or at least, is reviewed by a bunch of respected cat owners on the internet.

The only thing I was thinking about while watching the video was, why is that cat rolling around in the litter????????

We had someone donate a different brand of litter, but the same idea behind it, to the shelter. We figured we'd use it and warned all the volunteers about the potential crazy colors. If I remember right, as a litter it only worked ok. As someone else mentioned the smell control was poor and it was a little more difficult to scoop/keep clean.

Hecate uses crystal litter now, and with just her, we haven't had any odor problem. It seems to dry out her solid waste and absorb the liquid. Biggest issue we've had with it is that it is quite unpleasant to walk on and she's a messy girl. Although, I may try putting less in the box next month. She doesn't seem to need a deep box like most of the cats I've had.

My mom started using this. I haven't heard from her regarding smell control, but it did  turn bright blue when one of her crystals cats had some alkaline urine, so at least that part works.

Maybe I'm just a tad on the "old fashioned" side. But I think if people are in tune with their cats (most folks here are) and take them in if there is an issue or even better, for regular visits, you'll catch things just as well.

I also like clumping litter. I don't think my cats would like litter that has dirty litter mixed back in with the clean litter.

This is an old thread, but just wanted to ask if anyone had any recent feedback on this product? It just popped up on my Facebook feed and I had never heard of it before.

As a TNR volunteer I've ended up with a whole gang of cats and use Pretty Litter whenever I'm worried about a particular cat. It's a good a fairly good diagnostic tool, especially for feral/semi feral kitties who are hard to take to the vet. But I have two complaints regarding the product. First, color change is not that clear. Sometimes it is a judgement call whether the color is yellow or orange - I can't really tell. Same goes for blue and green. The litter seems blue, but by the end of the month its slightly green. Yet the cat has no problem.

My BIGGEST gripe is the company's billing system. Somehow I got on a regular delivery plan ($68 a month) and have been unable to cancel it for TWO months now. They billed me again today. I've contacted customer support and have yet to hear back. NOT happy.

Thanks for your take on this - very helpful!  Did you try to contact them through their Facebook page? Might have more luck that way.

Facebook is a good idea but luckily I got response today and they promised to cancel the order and refund credit card. It's not clear whether they have cancelled the subscription, as I'd requested. They seem well meaning, but their system is glitch-ridden.

Anyway, now I have about 10 bags of the stuff, which I will use if I have concerns about a cat. For me, the litter is too expensive for regular use.

For a regular size litter box, you need at least two bags of the stuff, which will last about a month, in a single cat household. If your cat is diabetic or has kidney issues and urinates a lot, you will need to change the box more frequently. Order control seems ok and tracking is minimal, unless you have a kitty who is a wild and crazy digger.

UPDATE on Pretty Litter company/customer service.

Unfortunately, it looks like these people are scammers or totally inept at best. Instead of removing a $68 hold on my credit card, as promised, for an order I never placed, they actually went and put and a CHARGE on my credit card for $68.

This is an awful company to deal with. I've been trying to resolve this issue for days. They promise to return calls in 24 hours, but have never called me back, just sending an email yesterday promising to refund, follwed by a CHARGE on my card today.
