Hi, our 10 year old has been diagnosed with accute pancreatitis today.
He had not been doing well, nothing serious (not eating well and a little lethargic) until a few days ago. It got worst so took him to the vet. Blood work didn't reveal anything except for reaction to infection. Gave him clavamox and prednisolone and fluids. No change in a week so back to the clinic, saw another vet yesterday. Fluid is accumulating in the belly. The second vet was awful and basically told us he couldn't do anything.
Took Milford to a third vet, they drew mor blood and ran the pancreas values. Just got the results and they are off the charts. Vet suggested an ultrasound, and then removing some of the fluid built up in his chest.
Fluid builds up because of low protein, which occurred because of not eating. We are now force feeding him with a/d and he is not throwing it up.
He deteriorated overnight, in the sense that his breathing is noisy, reason why the vet is suggesting the remove the fluid.
Even if we do this (remove the fluid) and if the ultrasound shows it is NOT cancer, is there any hope?
Anyone has experience with dealing with pancreatitis?
