I took Isabella, my cat, to vet on Monday, Oct.5. She was going to litter box over and over either not going or only dribbling. I took her to vet. He gave her two injections, dexamethasone 2mg and baytril. It is over one week latter and the UTI seems better but she acts like she is very sick. She is lethargic but nibbles and drinks. She shakes her head and looks horrible in her eyes. When I took her in she had no symptoms except the litter box. She is normally vocal and playful. Has this happened to anyone else? Has this damaged her?

I'm sorry your kitty is still not feeling better. Did your vet test the urine by doing cystocentesis or was it a clean catch?   Did the vet send the urine out for a Culture and Sensitivity?  If your cat truly had a Urinary Tract Infection, it is important to do the C & S to see which antibiotic it is sensitive to.  This helps prevent resistant bacteria.  Did your vet think your kitty could have had imflammation of the bladder wall rather than an actual UTI?

The antibiotic your cat is receiving could be making her feel unwell- how is she eating?  Is she pooping normally?   Antibiotics can be harsh on the GI tract.  I would call your vet and report this, you might ask if giving a probiotic could be helpful to restore some of the killed good bacteria.

Hi.

I'm sorry your little one is not well.I agree with Ruth either there is a UTI or your  baby is having a bout of cystitis.I belong to the flutd group @ yahoo.(feline lower urinary tract disease)and you come over & join us.That is all we deal with is urinary issues and have over 30 yrs of experience.I'm not big on the shot of Dex you had on your kitty.Did they take a urine sample from her? If not then they are just guessing. There is no guessing with urinary problems in cats.It must be analyzed and looked for bacteria, blood, rods, ketones etc.If bacteria is shown depending on your kitty's USG then it has to be grown to find out what it is and then a sensitivity test done to show what antibiotic will kill it.Dilute urine is harder to find bacteria in.That is a given. But unless your kitty has some form of ckd disease which I don't know when or if you have every had blood work or urinalysis before would depend on her numbers. If they are just assuming she is has a uti & gave the shot & meds that is not good honey. Please pop over & join us.There is a wealth here as well. All these groups are a gift to all of us dealing with kitty ailments etc.Our link is

  https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FLUTD/info

You will have to join yahoo which is no big deal if you don't already belong there.Free & easy.Google making an account with Yahoo_Ok? Hugs to the baby.Everything will be alright!!Please have ready the age of your kitty and test & if you have any results. You are privy to any test your kitty has ever had done.Meaning in paper form.i have files but yrs ago I never knew I was privy. And yes your kitty your privilege to have all the documents of test results.

HTH Honey C.Don't fret just come on over.Mary & the gang will help you.

The vet emptied her bladder on exam table by squeezing it. He suctioned up urine with a syringe and it was bloody. That is only test. All I know is that she felt better with the UTI than now at the conclusion of meds.
