I have another post regarding introducing my adult cat to a new kitten, but I wanted to talk about scent specifically.

At this the adult is obviously very aware of the kitten scent, but just don't like it. They each have their own small isolation rooms in my studio (bathroom for the kitten; laundry room for the adult). With them both out in the open the adult has investigated the bathroom and come back out and such. So, regarding room swapping, should I be putting the adult in the bathroom or is that an overwhelming situation. She has been aware of this cat for about 4-5 days now and hates the kitten. Is there any work that can be done with scent still?

On a related note, the cat has a Feliway diffuser in her laundry room and is also wearing the calming collar. Can that be too much? If I leave her in there for too long is she more likely to be aggressive?

Thanks for any advise.

I don't think there is any problem with leaving the kitten in the laundry room for longer.

As for scent swapping, have you tried giving them each a towel, and then swapping the towels after 24 hours or so?

It is normal that after only 4-5 days your cat would still find the scent extremely upsetting.  DO NOT move on from the scent stage until your cats BOTH seem okay with the scent of the other.  This might take quite a while longer, but if you rush it you will almost certainly need to just go back to step one, and it will take even longer.

You were probably linked to these in your other post, but there are teo very good articles here you can read about this:

Thanks for the advise tulosai

I have tried the towels. At first the adult would hiss at the scent, now she sort of investigates it without any vocalization, occasionally might growl, but will then kind of stay away from it.

I've been nervous about leaving her in the laundry room as I know it upsets her. She usually cries for like 20-30 min then settles in and relaxes.

Also I know the adult should more have the run of the apartment but despite her anxiety she is much easier to isolate and she doesn't mind being alone as much
