Hi guys,

I have a little problem. My neighbor (I don't really know her, spoke to her once for 2 min) has a new kitten, maybe 5 months old. He is everyday in our house and eats whatever my cats left, he even once ripped the food bag - looks to me like he is hungry, but I know he has a home, so I will not feed him.

I was wonder if there is something I can do without talking to the owner to stop him. I don't mind him being in our garden and playing whit my kittens (have 2 about 7 months old). But I noticed they fight when the little one is inside house (territorial issues).

I started to I feed my cats in the morning before I let them out and hide all food. Before I just was leaving food for them whenever they wanted to eat.

Do you think this will teach him there is no food here? How long it will take?

Thank for any solution that not involving me talking to the neighbor :)

BTW They had adult cat before who were behaving in similar way - meowing and begging for food, or affection. Walking around my legs, differently wanting something.

Best Regards

Maya

A simple solution would be to get a microchip - sensitive cat flap fitted. These can be programmed to only open for the resident cats, so your neighbour's kitten would be unable to get into your house.

You can train your older cat with food, build a big fence or talk to your neighbor about feeding her cats enough food.  Personally, I would go with training both of your cats to use the door.

I would make sure everyone was neutered so no more fighting, and then see whats going on with the neighbor. I feed all the neighborhood cats around here, if they are hungry they are fed!  The neighbors feed then too, but they like mine better. Everyone pretty much gets along, food is a great motivator for being friendly. I even have some big old feral toms stop in, and as long as there is separate plates, they are fine. If your little guy is hungry is there a problem with giving him something?

Thanks guys, I went to talk to the neighbor. I was worried about the little guy, today he was sleeping in our kitchen and again eating like crazy. Anyway I broth him back to her, and will see :)
