Six year old Holly weighs ten pounds. The vet says her weight is normal for her frame but to me she looks chubby. Holly gets no people food. About three times a week she gets one or two Authority brand grain free dental treats. In the am she gets either half can of Friskes pate or a whole can of Fancy Feast classic. She gets the same (either/or) for dinner. She is so hungry mid day but I want her to lose weight. This summer my AC was out so she didn't exercise much. Now that it's cooler she's a bit more active. How many calories should she get?

For indoor a cat of her size should have 200 calories 20cal per pound. The highest calorie dinners from Friskes are any of the ones with fish ranging from 170-187cal. For outdoor she would need 350cal per day 35cal per pound.  I think you are feeding her the right amount, but I would give her 30mins of play a day then go down to 15 when she gets to the weight you want her at. If you want lower calorie food try just giving her non fish pates, or wellness is very low calorie.

Hi angels4Mom.

If you're vet is saying your baby is fine i would personally take that as being true. They will undoubtedly notice when a cat is over weight & will tell you.If you decide to let your kitty lose weight be well aware the safest way of any kitty losing weight is not more than 1/2 per month. You also don't lift kitty and stand on a human scale. You purchase a babyscale.Much more accurate and available fairly cheap on amazon.Anything more than that as per weight loss & the liver may begin to take fat stores in the body.Plugging up the liver and then over times causing HL.Hepatic lipidosis. Not good & certainly life threatening big time. All there on the web for anyone to find.Hugs C.****Note***** Only a suggestion****I am Not a Vet*****

Most of the ones I give her are mainly meat but have fish in them. I think it's Friskies mixed grill that doesn't have fish in it.

I think you are feeding her good. I would maybe just exercise her a little bit everyday. Maybe go to the pet store and go on a kitty shopping spree and find some toys she can even play with while you are gone. Maybe even some freeze dried raw meat treats, like instinct raw boost mini's.

I have lots of toys she can play with by herself.

Normally when they get between 6-7 you can reduce the calories to about 175-180. I think your girl is still good at 10 pounds. If she isn't super playful I would try some catnip and maybe a kong.
