Up until very recently, we had 10 cats; 2 indoor/outdoor from different mothers, (1 male 1 female), and an 8 cat outdoor clan, from 3 litters by a single mother, who is one of the 8, (3 male 5 female [1 blind]). All are spayed/neutered. We moved all November 2014 to a new 1 acre fenced and treed property. The outdoor cats have a cat house, a shed, and the garage; a multitude of different roosts and beds, and unlimited food and water via a 2-level feeding area and multiple water bowl locations. All of the outdoor clan accepted the move and stayed "easily", except 1, an orange male. The orange male has some type of summer/heat/fungus-driven skin condition, (goes away for the winter) but has otherwise always shown good health.

The issues are with the outdoor clan; the blind cat went missing 2 months ago while we were gone for a week, and the orange male from the outdoor clan migrated back to the old house for the 3rd time 10 days ago -- after staying put for 9 months. I was finally able to trap and return him home yesterday. After an 8 hour eat and drink and sleep, he went back to the yard, only to be rejected by a sibling female and the clan leader -- the eldest female, through scattering and/or hissing behavior.

Though this is all very recent/immediate, I suspect that orange didn't just leave but was driven out, and that possibly (?) the blind female had also been driven out. She too had otherwise shown good health and was the master adapter-learner of the new property.

I will continue to observe and report; everyone's off wherever they go most days; in the meantime any directed information would be appreciated.

Could it be that the ones who left were sick in some way and thus ostracized?  May be a good idea to vet check them if and when they come back.

Sounds like they have it good, so some sort of disruption must have happened to cause this behavior.  Please keep us posted...

Thanks Ondine; orange has stayed around for 2 days now; still an outsider; though aside from the potential health reason, he did, (though decreasingly through dirt baths he's giving himself) reek to high heaven of possum poo or something that got dragged along with the trap base. more soon bests fg

I think orange was gone long enough to acquire new smells and behaviors, so when he came back he was a 'stranger'. I'm afraid to speculate on the blind female, I don't think she really would have gone far, and if she did she wasn't able to get back, either from being driven out, or attacked by a predator, which didn't detect you around during that week you were gone and became bold. I pray that you find her, the not knowing is the worst. I think orange will be accepted again, IF he stops going away and coming back 'different'! All the luck!

hey Di and Bob thanks for this; all sounding too in cahoots with my thinking but bringing freshness to the mix. there has been some progress with near/acceptance of orange; the female sibling that scattered 2 days ago ate closeby this morning, and his other male sibling slept nearby last night. our dear blind gal, well, if she went out I prefer to believe that she went out swinging -- she sure bit the heck out of me once, (my fault) and was a real firecracker. bests fg
