Little Hilda, a coal-black kitten, was born to a feral mother at our shelter. Although she was only half the size of her four siblings, she was the first to try solid food and run to humans to be picked up and cuddled. In other words, she was a tiny kitten with a big personality. Unfortunately, all five kittens were infected by their mother with giardia, and at 350 grams (12 ounces), she was just too small and young to fight the infection, despite the vet's and shelter workers' best efforts.
Rest in peace, Hilda. You were such a plucky, sweet little kitten, and it makes my heart ache that you weren't allowed more time on earth. You were loved and won't be forgotten. What I wouldn't give to be able to cuddle you again and look into your big blue eyes.
