My cat was injured by an animal of some sort about a month ago. Hind leg area. It became quite swollen, filled with fluid. The vet checked her over, ex rays, drained the fluid, and said the fluid would have eventually gone down on its own. Not long after coming home from vet it became swollen again. We waited over a wk monitoring it and today called the vet. He said give another wk or so then bring her in if it doesn't go away.Said the pressure from the build up would have her body absorbing the fluid back into body.i am wondering if someone might be familiar with this type of injury, it seems so big. She doesn't appear in pain just uncomfortable with it I am sure! Just hoping for thoughts on this I guess. How long it may take to go away? Will it actually go away on its own? We are thinking of taking her down to have it drained again rather than waiting. Thanks for any thoughts on this

I've never heard of anything like this.  My male cat was bitten by something last summer (we assume it was another neighborhood cat) but his leg swelled up and filled with pus.  Long story, but we ended up treating him with an antibiotic shot (can't remember for the life of me what it was called, but it was a one time shot that stayed in his system for a week or two.  It was AWESOME and so much better than giving him a pill every day!!  A day after he got this antibiotic shot, the abscess ruptured on its own and I drained it/wiped the pus away.  Within a week, he was back to normal.  I don't know what would cause a large fluid buildup like your kitty is having.  Did the vet say what it was...just water or is it infection?  Do you have a long history with this vet?  If not, you may want to get a second opinion!

So as a conclusion to this post, my cat is doing better :) I did take her back for second opinion. Both vets in building agreed that letting time go by it will heal and go away. It eventually did. Apparently what can happen with a bite like that is the Bite can separate the tissue in the animal causing fluid build up. As the fluid builds up and the tissue heals, the fluid eventually drains back into body. The fluid the vet had drained was not pass or infectious that caused him to think an infection in the body so all is well now! :)

Thanks for posting a follow up! That's interesting to know as I (like I'm sure a lot of people) would have assumed it was an infection that needed to be drained. Glad your cat is OK now. :)
