Hello all! My name is Linda and my husband and I have just brought home a new kitty.
"Missy" found us this spring. She wandered onto our property in Pennsylvania half starved and very scared. She wasn't a feral cat because she let us approach her and showed no fear of humans what so ever. As we began to know her and she us, it was clear that this cat had a home at one time. She was too comfortable with us and also very loving.
So, after a "long" debate with hubby about feeding this stray, we began to feed her. We purchased a 5 lb cat feeder which we left on our front porch so there would always be dry food along with water. We also noticed where else she wandered and made sure food and water was there too. And every week when we returned to the house, there she was running up the driveway.
So we began talking about "winter" and would we be able to come to the house as often to check on her and feed her and the answer was no. Winter in the Pocono's are too unpredictable and since we live full time in NY, it was clear what we had to do. Bring "Missy" (as we named her) home.
Last Friday we put her in her carrier, brought her to the Vet in PA and got her checked out. Well, she was full of surprises!! According to the vet, she's about 2 years old, spayed! He noticed her ear was "clipped" and said that she had been part of a Trap, Spay and Release program. When they spay a cat they "clip" the ear so if she's picked up again they will know she's been spayed. Haha..we thought she was in a fight and got her little ear chewed! He gave her a good checking over, blood tests for Feline diseases, initial shots and flea meds. He too commented on how calm and loving she was. Made an appointment for follow up shots and that was it. Missy had a home.
So it's been a very long time since I had cats. I had two cats over 20 years ago that I adopted as kittens. But I never had an older cat as a pet. She's proving to be a very loving and sweet little lady and we're so very happy she "adopted" us.
