I'm really nervous of spaying my cat cause I don't want her in any pain. It'll kill me if I can't give her, her meds right and then she'll be in pain. I don't want to be a bad mother so I'm scared of getting her spayed at all. She does have an appointment to be spayed and she's now two years old. I'm just a nervous wreck over here. I was told spaying is healthy and oh boy do I want her to be healthy for years to come and sheesh do I want her to stop going into heat. The surgery just scares me. My male cat took his neutering like a champ. And recovered in three days but I was told the spays are more difficult. I need help easing my nervousness.

I actually get sick to my stomach! My vet performed the last spay on my tiny feral mom, he glued her shut instead of stitches, and I tell you, she came home and acted like nothing had happened! She was running around within hours. This was two weeks ago and she comes every morning with her two remaining kittens. She never even acted scared of me! Think of your sweet baby going into heat, and pretty much staying there, they cycle VERY quickly until they are pregnant. Cats don't so much as mate as they get raped, those big toms are not nice at all. You don't want your sweet one to go through all that! I'll say a special prayer for your little one to come through it fine, I'm sure she will, keep us posted! PS If you have any questions AFTER the spay please post, such as a lump is normal because they have stitches inside too, and know the signs and symptoms of infection. I've been through 15 spayings now with my cats, and ALL came through fine. It's just hard not to worry!

I've had several cats spayed and even though you are scared and stressed, it will be fine. I always get the pain meds for my females but not for the males because males isn't as extensive. I've only had to use pain meds for one day after the initial surgery because of her being sore. After 24 to 36 hours after the surgery they are fine.

You still don't want them to be up running around or jumping because it can rupture the stitches and get infected so just watch her carefully. Don't let her lick at the stitches because she can chew them out. My vet uses dissolvable thread so we didn't have to take her back for removal.

Healthy is an understatement. My baby girl ended up with pyometra (uterine infection) which is fatal and not always identified until it's too late, and would have died. Please get her spayed for her health and safety. My vet always calls me after ward just to let me know how things went. I'm sure if you asked, your vet will call you too.

Yes it is hard not to worry but ty for sharing with me. 15?! Whoa. And they are all fine. That really helps me a lot. I feel a little easy now that you've told me. And yes I'll be posting after her spay. I read the cone of shame doesn't work so I'm not going to get that one. Oh no the rape part... oh heck no my cat is not going through that. Her spay is already scheduled. And thank you for praying. ^^ I really appreciate that. You've helped me a lot. Thank you.

I had a male that had to have two surgeries. He had an undescended testicle and they had to go inside him to retrieve the other one. So basically he was neutered (male) and spayed (sort of). He came through fine. I got pain meds for him because of the extensive surgery but he was a trooper. I was very nervous with him but everything worked out alright.

You and your baby girl will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I never got a cone for any of mine. It don't really help.

With all those cats I have been through with spaying, not one had a cone, and they all did fine.  And really 15 is most likely a low estimate, I've had cats for over 50 years! Just be prepared to give her lots of love and attention, she will NEED to be spoiled, after all she's your little girl!

Thank you guys so much for posting and helping me. I feel easier now and I'll do the spay. Its in her best interest. You guys have more experience than me and it really helps me out to know what you've been threw. So I won't get no cone and I'll get the pain meds for a few days. Could you help me understand how they give you the pain Meds? Is it a pill or liquid form?

Our vet gave us liquid in premeasured syringes and you just put it between the cheek and gum.  Our feral/stray don't like it much, but our old cat with CRF used to love the stuff... she didn't fight us at all. I am sure your girl will do great!  Much happier that pmsing all the time.

Yeah that's what I got with mine. It's so much easier and it will help them especially the next day.

Alright liquid syringes. Sounds much easier than pills. I'll ask about the different kinds of pain meds.

Sounds like buprenex, whcih is a very good pain medicine for cats. The medicine has to be given between the cheek and gums where it will be absorbed. Some may be ingested but it will still work on the pain.

Try and get dissolving stitches.
Good luck and don't worry.

She's much better. She stopped bleeding and is still acting so lovey dovey. Her spay is coming up soon and I'm so not ready. Nervous wreck. Lol. I never found the babies though we looked everywhere. But she is in good health. Scratching my door right now trying to get in my room. ^^ ty for asking.

I had my girl spayed underneath. It's less painful for them as you are not cutting thru the thick side muscle. The vet gave her a pain killer that lasted 48hrs and you wouldn't of known she'd had anything done.

Ask your vet if he can use dissolving stitches
please don't worry but I know you will. Try not to over worry. I've had 4 spayed. Of course it's easier for the toms. Everything is easier for males of any species.
Let us know how it went.

My girl loved this vest. I got her used to wearing it before her op. So much nicer than cone I gave it to vet to put on after her op, she has an older brother that is obsessed with washing her so it was also to prevent him doing that. Dissolvable stitches and an underneath spay and she will be absolutely fine. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thank youuu for your information. I really appreciate that. That actually looks like a very nice idea. I like to dress up my animals so they are a little use to wearing clothing. Especially when it's cold in the house and I know the floor level is the coldest and cats can't help but be on the floor level. Ill get a few of those. Nice creative way. And I agree, better than the cone.

My little Pea-Pea Head got spayed the other day and she's doing great. I never had any doubt about it being the right decision (it's the only one as far as I'm concerned) but that didn't keep me from worrying! She's not 100% back to her normal self, she's not jumping five feet up into the air to get on the shower railing like she was before. And actually I'm glad for that - she can wait till after her stitches come out for that!
