A person I know from another internet board lives in North Little Rock. A neighbour died, and the neighbours cat has taken up residence on her porch. She is feeding the poor thing, and giving it a place to sleep, but is violently allergic, and can't even get close. She doesn't want to take it to the Humane Society, and needs some help or advice about what to do.

I said the cat will be fine in the short term, but she needs a longer term solution to rehome this poor thing. The cat is spayed, so at least that is not a worry.

I suggest that she call vets in her area until she can get a referal to a no-kill rescue group. Vets are great resources and usually can come up with a number of references. Have her start with any vet listed as a cat clinic.

Also you can try getting into the BestFriends forum (www.bestfriends.org) and ask for shelter references from there. They have a category for animal rescue on their board. Best Friends has contacts all over the country.

Good luck!

Thanks, she is reading this thread, and has some options. She is looking after the cat, just not indoors, and we both think that the cat deserves an indoor home.

I have to concur with what Amy said. Many times vets will know the "crazy cat people" in the area, and can direct your friend to someone who can help. I know that Laurie's (LDG) vet calls them when there is a rescue needed (or someone who needs help finding a home), even though they certainly aren't listed anywhere.

ROFL That would be me - my vet now calls me on any stray they take in!!

But seriously Sammie - if this doesn't work out, I can post to the animal rescue yahoo group in Kansas City - we are close enough to Little Rock that they might be able to uncover more leads for you. There is a lot of interstate help going on in the midwest. PM me if you want me to post to that group.

Wow, thanks a lot. I told her that the cat site would be able to help. She says thanks a lot too. And we'll let you know if she needs more help.
