I was wondering if anyone has had a negative FeLV ELISA blood test but gone on to do a bone marrow aspiration looking for FeLV? My cat Petey tested negative in an ELISA blood test but the vet said it could still be found in the bone marrow. Petey’s blood counts all look good except he has low neutrophils and somewhat high lymphocytes. FeLV is just one possibility, but it is a possibility.

He is acting completely healthy so I was going to wait for a few more weeks and retest, but when I started researching how contagious FeLV is, I panicked since I have 3 cats. One of them is all up in Pete’s business with grooming and playing. This is the only reason I would move forward with the test but even if it is positive, what would I do? I can’t put Petey down, nor can I give up my other kitties.

Also, what is recovery like for a bone marrow aspiration?

Did you post this before your discussion with the Internal Medicine doc?  I was just kind of surprised to see it this morning, after our "discussion" yesterday in your other thread
