You all know that I get very bad migraines from time to time and am unable to take any OTC pain meds because of allergies. Sometimes the headaches can be downright nasty and the only thing I can do is go to bed; other times, I don't get the nausea and vomiting, so I can come to work and work through the pain.
I had a dr appt this morning; it was simply to get a refill on my BP prescription. But he's a new to me doctor (my old doctor left) and so we chatted about things for quite a while, partly, I think, as a chance to get to know each other a little bit. He also told me that my little daily walk is singularly the best thing I can do for my physical, mental, and emotional health.
Anyway, for the migraines, he has suggested that I take 400 mg of Vitamin B2 every day, preferably a 200 mg pill twice a day, about 12 hours apart. I guess Vitamin B2 is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. I'm ready to try pretty much anything at this point; last week I had a headache that lasted about 3 days. I worked through the pain two days and then stayed home one day and stayed in bed most of that day. A while back, I had tried turmeric (curcumin) for the headaches and I was amazed at how much better I felt. But it didn't last and the headaches started coming back. Migraines are a real pain.
I'll run out to our natural food store and see what I can find. Will start taking it this weekend and I'll see how it goes. Meanwhile, I know there are a few of us who get migraines and I thought I'd throw it out there for you. You can take one 400 mg tablet daily, or four 100 mg tablets daily. For me, he prefers that I try one 200 mg tablet twice a day as this will help to keep it in my system for a longer period of time. And it's easier for me to take that way as I take other vitamins and fish oil twice a day as well.
I'm starting to feel like a walking medicine chest, although the only prescription I take is for my BP. Everything else is simply supplements and such: fish oil, calcium, Vit D3, Biotin, multi-vitamin, and the Osteo-Biflex. I know some people feel that Osteo-Biflex doesn't really do much, but I have bad joints and I was diagnosed with osteopenia a few ago and I walk, so anything I can do to keep my joints as healthy as possible, I'm going to do. So now I guess I'll add riboflavin to the mix as well.
