I am posting a new thread cause I was no longer getting responses on my previous "cat limping" post

I brought my 10 month old, Loki, to the vet the other day because he has been limping off and on which usually happened after an intense play session (he is very energetic and aggressive). The vet did some X-rays and found out he has luxating patella on both his back legs. Apparently he was born with it and its genetic. Most of the time when cats have this, it never bothers them and surgery isnt necessary. It is a common surgery in dogs but not cats. My vet suggested surgery but said it was not an emergency. I am holding off on surgery until i save some money and he isn't constantly limping.

I am wondering if anyone else's cats ever had this issue and if you went through the surgery? Did they outgrow it? How was the recovery? How much was the procedure? Should I get a second opinion?

I am just trying to find out from anyone who has experience with this so I can weigh my options. He seems to be fine since the vet visit the other day so I am just keeping an eye on it.

I don't have any experience in this and hope someone who does will chime in soon. I did read your other thread and saw Loki's photo - what a beauty! Anyway, you asked about a second opinion - this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do considering you are possibly looking at surgery down the line. I'm also wondering if it is possible to give Loki something for pain on days when he is limping and hurting?
