Hello,
My cat got her Feline Leukemia and Rabies vaccines for the first time (she's four but an indoor cat). We did the FL shot 3 months ago, with a booster 2 months ago and her rabies at the same time (rabies right leg, FL in left). Had in-depth talk with vet about the safety of it , etc. but as I am a foster home for rescue cats we decided to do all the shots.
After the booster and rabies (so 2 months ago today) she had swelling for approx. one week on the left leg, but she was fine behaviourally. Monitored it closely and after 3 weeks she still had lumps even though swelling had gone down (one on the left leg injection site, one in a lymph node behind the knee on right leg, which the vet found strange). Went back to the vet and they did an ultrasound and measured the lumps. They came at 1.5cm and 1.7cm.
Vet said to give it another month, and if they were still there to bring her back. He thought they'd be too small for needle aspiration so they may need to do a surgical biopsy. She's going back today as the left leg lump (at the leukemia injection site) is still there for sure, although smaller I think. I can't tell about the one on the right side so it's either gone or too small to tell. When I called the vet though, it really sounded like they just wanted a look but will continue to wait rather than doing the biopsy.
Everything I am reading online says that lumps lasting this long need to be treated aggressively. Is my vets "wait and see" attitude dangerous? Is there anything I should be asking about or doing for my appointment? Am I being paranoid?
I just don't want to be dragging her back in there again for them to say - give it another month. I also don't want to be doing nothing if she needs help. She is acting completely normally, btw. Happy as can be.
Thanks for any advice.
