Where does your kitteh sleep?

I'm curious to know what sleeping arrangements most people have with their cats.

When I got Bud, the initial plan was to have him sleep on his plush kitteh bed. That lasted all of one day -- by night time he was on the bed with me, front paws around my arm like it was a stuffed animal. Then during the "Sleep Time Is For Biting Feet!" stage, I tried to lock him out of the bedroom a few times (cruel, I know) but he would cry and cry and cry outside the door and I always relented.

Now, more than a year and a half later, Bud lets me settle into bed, then jumps up and snuggles in the "valley" between my legs on top of the blanket. He stays like that all night. If I need to adjust, I literally have to slide my legs out, turn over, and carefully slide back in so as not to disturb the lump of fur pinning my blanket to the bed.

On especially restless nights, the enduring mystery is how I wake up and realize I'm relegated to 1/3 of the bed while His Grace takes up the other 2/3, or how a 9-pound cat can steal an entire blanket. Also, unless I "hide" my glasses, he'll swat them off the table and I'm guaranteed to spend 10 minutes the next morning fumbling around like a blind man.

And of course my bed is one of his primary napping spots throughout the day. If I go into the bedroom and he deigns to open his eyes, he'll look at me like, "Yes, I've claimed your bed. What of it, human? Go get me a Temptations snack!"

So how about your kitty sleeping arrangements?

So funny and sweet! :)

My cats sleep wherever they want also :)

1 sleeps on or around my face always...
1 sleeps on my 15 year old daughters bed exclusively...
2 sleep either with my son one at the foot of the bed and the other occupying the pillow with him or on my bed....
And 1 sleeps sneakily away from everyone :(

Thanks, LotsOfFur! You know, I've found myself wondering about households like yours where there are multiple cats all trying to claim positions on beds, next to or on their humans.

What about the cat who doesn't sleep with anyone? Does anyone feel bad for the little guy, or is it his choice? I've read plenty of posts here where people talk about how the dynamics change when they introduce a new cat to the household, or when a new high-energy kitten pushes an older cat away and claims their bed territory.

Do your cats ever break their sleeping habits, or do they always sleep with their preferred human?

I don't really know where my cats sleep.   I go to bed before they do.  Sometimes Fluffy will sleep in the cat tree in my room, sometimes one of them will sleep in the cat bed on the dresser.  Eclipse will sometimes sleep on the foot of the bed.   Sometime we find them on the window perch.  Or they sleep downstairs somewhere.

P plan My kitties have their choice of where they want to sleep. And our kitty who doesn't choose to sleep with us has her favorite spots around the house that she enjoys. The dynamics in my house are fairly well established. All of the pets in my home came to me as fosters except my 12 year old baby Zoe. I have 2 boys who are both 8 years old that came to me as kittens within a month of each other and are bonded. The "youngest" 2 came in about 6 months later so they were all very accepting. All 4 of them are bonded and love and groom each other.

I also have dogs and everyone hangs out together. My bedroom has dog beds, 2 large and two smaller ones in crates (cats actually love these ;) ) and we have 3 cat trees.

I think when you have pets that were homeless and have co existed with other foster animals they are very adaptable... If they wouldn't have been I would not have been able to foster for 2 years. That being said, my aging pets have not had that kind of disruption in 8 years and so far I've been blessed that no one seems to feel left out.

Only 2 out of the 5 never break routine of where they sleep.

Oh boy sounds like my house!!! My Snowshoe sleeps between my legs all 8 pounds of her and keeps me pinned down in the perfect spot for her comfort! My other 4 each take their night time posts on the couches in the living room or family room. During the day they all pile onto mom and dads bed together except for my Samar who prefers to sleep on a cushioned kitche chair alone.

Thanks. It seems to me that fostering really is the way to go if you're considering getting another cat. I've read so many stories about people bringing new cats home, upsetting the balance, having difficult introductions, etc., that I feel like fostering would be the smart play.

What you said about homeless pets is interesting too. I've often wondered if they feel more "grateful" than pets who have had homes all their lives. And I wonder this because my cat is a brat, no sugar coating it. His idea of hardship is getting chicken when he wants turkey, or getting cuts when he wants pate. Sometimes I feel like I should bring him to a shelter to see how other cats have it, but I don't think that would compute the same way it would for humans. (Like bringing a bratty kid to volunteer at a soup kitchen, so she realizes how much she has.)

Do you still foster?

Haha, I notice you wrote for HER comfort, not yours! Although I have to admit, I'm used to it by now and it wouldn't feel right without Bud snuggling up with me.

I don't know what it is about my kitten, but she has a variety of sleeping places, three or four in each main room of the apartment. She's used all of them.

She's had the biting feet stage too, and I have to hide my glasses, like you, every night under a blanket or she'll gnaw on the ear pieces.

Anyway, I never know what time she'll join me for an hour or more, it's so variable and depends on her play schedule. But I usually get a few hours of cuddles each night... and I find that I have a muscle strain in my arm or neck the next morning from not wanting to move in the night when she's with me, afraid I'll disturb her sleep in doing so. lol

Chula sleeps on my bed next to my feet and Paul usually sleeps in a box in front of my bedroom window. Sometimes he decides he wants the bed though and when he does, he always takes Chula's spot even though there is plenty of room for both of them. Chula then gets in a snit and sleeps under the coffee table in the living room.

My dear old girl Polly used to sleep with me until young Emma arrived. Emma would not sleep on the bed so Polly used to go out to the living room to sleep - I think to keep an eye on her as they basically only tolerated each other. That was sad - no cat on the bed!

When the house is warm Ruby sometimes sleeps at the foot of the bed.  But once fall arrives and the house gets cool at night, she sleeps under the covers with me.

We have to lock Sasha in the bedroom with us. If she has the run of the house, she'll leave the bedroom and cry and cry like she's looking for us. She used to sleep on my pillow (more like my face) but has moved to sleeping by my side now that I share a bed with the SO. Sometimes she'll sleep in her cat bed next to the bed. Kyubi gets the run of the house and night and sleeps wherever he wants, usually in the closet. He has started to sleep on top of our legs, which is really uncomfortable. Sometimes I wake up with 2 cats on the bed! (And they are not friends, so kind of a big deal.)

On me! If I am for some reason not available to be his personal pillow, there's a chair in the kitchen he uses.

The Ladies sleep wherever they want. On top of the filing cabinet, in my computer chair, in the Kitty Kube, and on the bed. I usually have 2 or 3 on or against me when I go to sleep, but they get up before I do and watch the animals out the windows.

I love this thread! It confirms what we have all known or figured out as cat guardians, they sleep where they want to :D

Pickles and Pepper love to sleep with me at night.  They avoid my husband's side of the bed because he is a mover and will literally kick them off the bed in his sleep.  Pickles likes to go underneath the covers and sleep between my legs while Pepper will curl up either in my arms or by my face.  Sometimes I wake up to both kittens curling up over my face with only my nose sticking up between them.
