Okay so I posted on here a while ago about how to introduce a new cat to our resident cat, Boo. Both are young (Boo is 1 year and the new cat is 6 months), female and spayed. Well, on Sunday when we brought her home, she came out of her carrier and immediately went to hide under the couch. Our plan was to slowly introduce them as everyone suggested. Well that didn't pan out as we waited for our new cat to come out from under the couch for a while. Eventually she came out and after a day, she is pretty much running the house. She is used to being around other cats so all she wants to do is see what our Boo is up to. However, Boo is having none of it. She hisses and growls and can't eat or poop peacefully as the new cat follows her everywhere. Boo tends to stay on the dining table (her 24/7 play/sleep spot) and just watches the new cat as she roams. In the mornings the new cat meows loudly and wants our attention and this is the time when Boo is most aggravated with her. Last evening both were in the same room, new cat laying on the carpet and Boo in her cat condo just observing. This morning Boo was trying to use her litter box and the new cat followed her in and so Boo jumped out, not even able to finish her business. We have a Feliway plug in that we set up last night but is there any advice? Will this ever get better? It is hard to imagine a peaceful house with two cats. :( Any help and help soon would be great! Thank you!

If you just brought the new cat home a couple of days ago, it's not a surprise they're still getting used to each other.  If they're hissing and growling and not actively fighting, that's actually a good start!

Do you have more than one litter box?

Yes we have two boxes. This is comforting knowing that hissing and growling but not fighting is actually a good thing. My husband and I just want boo and our new cat (haven't picked a name yet) to peacefully coexist and for boo to be her normal loving self all the time.

That happened when we introduced a third cat to a brother and sister that we already had.  They gave him a few days of stink eye, hissing and growling, but he was a pretty mellow boy and didn't react aggressively.  It wasn't long before they were all getting along fine.

Of course, that doesn't always happen so keep an eye out to make sure the hissing and growling doesn't escalate to fighting.

Is it possible to separate them a bit--like their eating areas or pooping areas, so Boo can eat and poop in peace?

Calming diffusers or treats might help, too, if tensions continue.

Well, I guess maybe I was kinda jumping the gun… the cats are finally starting to get along. Boo still gives off a growl or two every so often and our new cat (yet to be named) will give off a hiss on ocassion. This morning they were chasing each other this morning and it was so nice to see them actually interact. Hopefully this keeps up and they’re BFF in no time! :)

I'm so glad to hear this news.
It's always such a relief when peace reigns in the house.
that it continues!   Let us know when you name your new guy.
