I caught a feral kitten two years ago and just recently she was pregnant and I had no idea she was even pregnant. She is has a tiny build and sleek, so I was to say the least surprised when she came running to me last night in the process of loseing her mucus plug. The thing I am so worried about and never seen or heard of is she had three premature kittens they were born alive and for a minute were breathing but unfortunately it was obvious that they would not make it they had no fur, their skin was so thin, but alive. My question is, is this is something that is common with federal verses domesticated cats, and if not how and why does this happen? Should I be concerned for her. As for my best friend her name is meyou and she is spoiled and pampered very healthy diet up to date with her shots and my home at mo is always peaceful and calm. I know a lot about cats and there care and this is not my first ferral cat that I raised from a kitten but it is my first to do this. Oh and one other thing my poor baby went through so so much pain I never heard a cat howl so loud like that. Any at all feed back advice personal expirence anything at all would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks[emoji]128570[/emoji]

So this feral cat who birthed premature kittens lives in your home with you now, or in the wild?

And no, it is not common for ferals to have premature kittens. This cat went into labor prematurely for one reason or another. It can happen for different reasons.

Perhaps you can have her spayed now so that she does not have to go through this again.

Yes she lives in my home she has her own room unfortunately one day about a month ago she ventured outside and it was only for probably 20 minutes or so and I plan on getting her fixed. I honestly wasn't going to since before that day and after she has shown no interest in wanting to go back out I even have this neighbor who I am constantly getting onto about not shutting my front door all the way still shows no interest in wanting to go out.I didn't think that it was common I am just worried about her I really love her and to me she is my child. Must sound strange but true.

Thank you for responding so quickly

Outside in the all aroung population, its perhaps not very common.  But here we cat lovers are heavily concentrated.  We do all love our cats, and for many of us, are our cats alike our children.   No coincidence the wording Baby recors very often, either as nickname or even so they are named.   :)

I agree with SArthur, this with prematures were just what happens sometimes.  Perhaps some infection, perhaps genetical, there are many possible causes, it happens now and then.  Sometimes just one of them, sometimes all of them...

I made the appointment today this Friday she will be getting fixed I am so so happy I found this site I absolutely love my cats sometimes I would rather have my cats company instead of my family and friends and their purring is so calming when I've had a particularly rough day and it is like they know when I have had a bad day. And my whole life I have always had cats dogs are okay for dog people but not me I have always loved cats and every one of my beautiful baby girl cats I've had have always come to me and climb in my lap and lay on their backs letting me know it is time when they are pregnant all my cats deliveries were in my lap or right next to me I was 10 years old when I helped with my baby shadow with her first litter.
