Does anyone else sing to their cat?? What do you sing??

I guess I got bored tonight and wrote Xena a song- based on Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. But other times I have been known to sing "You are my sunshine" and "Love love love" by The Beatles

Pretty Kitty, cattin down the street

Pretty kitty, on your two purple feet

Pretty kitty, I see you -you're my muse

No cat can look as good as you, Meow!

Pretty kitty won't you love on me
Pretty kitty I couldn't help but say
Pretty kitty that you're as gorgeous as can be
Are you lonely without me? Meow!

Pretty kitty stop awhile

Pretty kitty nudge awhile
Pretty kitty show your smile to me
Pretty kitty, meow, meow, meow

Pretty kitty look my way
Pretty kitty say you'll come with me
'Cause I need you, I'll treat you right
Come with me kitty, give me loving tonight.

---------------

I know, I'm awful. And for your listening please... lol-- Here is "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison

Our family has six cats, and I didn't notice it until RB pointed it out, but I have a different song for each cat. For Momma cat, I sing "Soft Kitty" from the Big Bang Theory. Princess gets "My Little Princess" to the tune of "My Little Pony" (the original), Asia gets "Rock-a-bye Baby", Slipper gets "Hush Little Baby", Ra gets the opening part of Lady Gaga's song Bad Romance (and only the opening), and Spot gets a variation of "My Darling" where I substitute the words "My Darling" for "Spot my Spot." I didn't know anyone else sang to their cats!

Only all the time. Nothing structured. Just little stuff about how much we love them, how pretty (or handsome) they are, how sweet and loving they are. Lilith and Sophie love it. They sit up straight, close their eyes tight and purr very loudly. Henry isn't impressed.

Since my cat's name is Cookie I hold him and sing  the cookie monster song "C is for Cookie" to him. And when I am done I make om nom noises and kiss the top of his head.

[Now what starts with the letter C?
Cookie starts with C
Let's think of other things
That starts with C
Oh, who cares about the other things?]

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C

[Hey you know what?
A round cookie with one bite out of it
Looks like a C
A round donut with one bite out of it
Also looks like a C
But it is not as good as a cookie
Oh and the moon sometimes looks like a C
But you can't eat that, so ... ]

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me, yeah!
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C, yeah!
Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C, oh boy!
Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!

Umm-umm-umm-umm-umm

I sing "smelly cat" from friends to my Lucy as she has a smelly poop issue we're trying to sort at the moment. I also just generally sing what I'm listening too and we have a dance through the house. She doesn't seem to mind but she probably secretly hates me!

Artie does not appreciate my singing voice!! In fact no one else does either. My Dad used to ask me where I got that voice!

I do cuddle Artie and kind of softly sing songs. I make them up...But the real singing voice really causes him to turn his ears down!!

I sing The Can Time Song when it is time to eat which is mostly just silliness, also the Meow Mix theme (love this) and another silliness called "I Have A Cat" to let them know I am happy to have them. Chula and Paul just look at me like I'm crazy except when I sing Can Time, at which point Paul comes running!

This is so funny!  I sing Baby Kitty to the tune of Pretty Woman!  (It's mostly the same song just substituting Baby Kitty for Pretty Woman.)  Speck is the Baby Kitty, even though he is a giant cat now.  Sometimes I sing the Daisy Sour Cream jingle to Daisy.  And I sing another song to her; I don't know much about country music and it is a country song.  She hates to hear me sing...especially that song!

I tend to change the lyrics to songs to include "Bud" or "Buddy," like "Now that we've got Bud what are we gonna do with him?"

"Wu Tang Clan ain't nuthin' to Bud with!"

"Buddy are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Buddy? You've been bit by a smooth Bud-inal! Buddy Buddy Buddy Bud Bud, Buddy Bud Bud...ow!"

"If there's something strange, and it don't look good...who you gonna call? Bud Busters!"

"Trade buddies...different color and shape Buddies, Buddies that look funny but never no fake Buddies...we play Buddy Buddy but we don't hate Buddy, we all love Buddy and we don't hate Buddy!"

I don't have a structured song, but I sing at them all the time just in general. I live by myself, a lot of song outbursts happen. My friends kind of have a song for their roommates cat though. It goes:

Felix the cat he is a cat meow meow meow meow

Nothing too extravagant. ;)

I sing to my cats all the time.  I like to sing and they are a captive audience.

There's an old song from the fifties, "Little Bitty Pretty One."  There may not be many who remember it, though I have recently found out that the Jackson Five and Huey Lewis and the News covered it, so there may be more who are familiar with it than I had originally thought.

For me, it's "Little bitty kitty one, come on and talk with me.

Lovey-dovey kitty one, come sit down on my knee."

Then I sing the Whoa, oh whoa oh and then the nonsense verse

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah about 4 times.

For most of the songs I sing to them, I make up the words and usually the tune.  I suspect I missed my calling when I chose not to write light opera.  Cats might dispute that.  When I visited my sister in Pa., I sang to her four fine cats while she was at work.  They decided to spend the day in the basement.  Her two sweet dogs seemed to like hearing me sing Stevie Wonder's "Golden Lady."  Well, they watched me closely, anyway.  They may have been trying to decide if I was dangerous.

Since singing is something that my family has always done, the animals have to put up with it.

No, I don't sing to my cats. I would hate to do any damage to their ears.

I sang once many years ago.... it set off car alarms, the neighbor called the police to report a murder in progress and a priest threw holy water on me and tried to perform an exorcism. Okay, I am exaggerating a bit, but honestly... for the safety of those around me.... best I don't try to sing

I am really envious of people with good singing voices!

Kitten has a thing for Billy Idol.

She loves when I sing this to her

Over in Killarney,
Many years ago,
Me mither sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good ould Irish way,
And I'd give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Hush, now don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
That's an Irish lullaby.
Oft, in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a huggin' me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a humin'
To me as in days or yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Hush, now don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
That's an Irish lullaby.

BabyMook would simply be a drum solo of Wipeout.  Which is exactly what it sounds like in our kitchen every night around 2 AM.

Can I just say this thread absolutely makes my day :D

I sing to my pets all the time! Make up my own songs, insert their names and freestyle with different tunes! My whole family, hubby and 3 children do it also and I. LOVE. IT.

:hugs: to all of you fellow pet singers!

That is the exact same reason I know that song.

My cats don't like singing at all. I don't know if everyone in my family just sucks at singing or if they genuinely have a distaste for music.

Thanks for starting this Nebula! I needed a good laugh today. I sing to my cats all the time. Mostly I just sing about what I'm doing, what they're doing or how cute and silly they are. I throw in a bunch of Lu Lu Lu Lu's for some reason. Like, "Lu Lu want are you doing Lu Lu Lu" "Lu Lu you're so sweet, Lu Lu Lu Lu Lu Lu" things like that. I don't know where that came from. None of them are named Lu Lu. Mostly they just stare at me weird.

My cat Genny (Genevieve) spends the warm months living on the porch, as she gets depressed in the basement and some people are allergic to her when she has free run of the house. She is very smart when it comes to the road, because at the previous house she lived at her old owners are pretty sure she had been hit by a car. She was missing for a while, and when she returned she had a new nervous habit of licking her side bald.

Anyways, I heard a scream outside (cat scream) and went to see what was wrong. I saw nothing wrong. But the next time I went outside I found Genny in her cat house, with the skin stripped off her poor little tail! Freak out moment!

The vet said they would amputate it tomorrow, so she had to wait with a bone for a tail that whole time, in a crate in our living room! That was creepy and I felt terrible for the poor girl. She was so scared in the crate, and I knew that she might go into shock if I didn't keep her calm. We didn't know how bad her damage was and I didn't know what to do! All night with her meowing in that crate, pacing in fear. All I knew to do was play music and sing with it, and I did that for I'm not sure how long, until she calmed down.

The music worked to keep her calm, and she had her amputation the next morning, healed very well, and it has been a long time since and she is doing wonderfully. She's my grumpy girl, but she's still my kitty and I'm so glad my now bob-tailed cat was okay.

I usually sing the soft kitty song to mine whenever he's afraid or relaxed/about to sleep.. My mom thought it was weird and funny but oh well. Cat doesn't seem to mind xD
