Hi everyone. My roommate's cat, who I have come to love very much, had to go to the vet last night for an urethral block. The vet gave him a catheter and flushed out his bladder. He prescriber him prazosin, bruprinorphrine, and clavamox. Im worried about how he has been acting since we came home last night. He slept in our room with us with the litter box, but never used it. When I woke up those morning his butt was wet like he urintated on himself. He woke up and drank so much water he vomitted it all back up. I only gave him small amounts of water the next couple hours after that. Since then he's had access to water at all times, and his food. Im worried about his behavior, for the last 11 hours he has laid in the same spot, only moving to adjust an inch or so. He also keeps urinating on himself. His whole under sode is soaked and smells of pee, I folded up a towel and picked him up to lay him on it so he wasnt so uncomfortable. Is this normal behavior after a medical condition like this? Or has anyone dealt with these behaviors? I'm really worried about him, he is typically very independent and plays with our other cat or comes and rubs on us for attention. He just seems really out of it, and I wonder if maybe the vet gave him too high dosage of meds. Any info you all have would be greatly appreciated. I have come to love him very much and consider him as my own adopted baby.

I would actually just call the vet, describe the behavior exactly as you've described it to us, ans ask them if the cat needs to be seen or if this sounds normal or if the medication might need to be adjusted.  They should be able to tell you on the phone which of those options it is, and it is probably better for you to seek an opinion directly from them than from us :)  I will say that do have a cat who has dealt with blockages and he did not act like this upon coming home, no, so I definitely would call the vet and ask.

Good luck.

I'm sorry I just saw this post. Of course run this by the vet the pain meds and muscle relaxer may be relaxing too much. But this isn't a bad thing because you know there is no reblockage. A blockage is a hard condition to watch a wonderful cat endure through. The objective at this point is to keep the urine flowing. My cat did the same thing and though it was hard to keep him clean there came a point where he stopped leaking.

My cat just had a blockage yesterday. I was finally able to express him after almost 36 hours of blockage. The vet said to watch him to see he is urinating on his own, if not keep expressing him until Monday. He is now leaking too. From some reading I think this is normal for a few days afterwards. He is acting like himself and eating and drinking normally again. I hope your kitty gets back to normal quickly!!

After going through the same situation with my cat last year, I understand the stress. Like the others said, just give the vet a call and ask! I did the same, and there is no shame in just checking. Rocky was really out of sorts for a while, its quite the recovery process. We had to keep him in the bathroom for about a week, especially since he was peeing all over the place. But he eventually began using the litterbox again.

Sadly to inform everyone, but we took Sonny back to the vet the next day and he was blocked again. My roommate and i couldnt afford the procedure to help him, so we had to put Sonny down. We did everything we could, pur finances just werent compatible and neither of us could qualify for a loan to tale care of him. We are both struggling right now, but time heals. Thank you everyone for the comments and input.

I'm so sorry for your loss. For anyone else who is currently dealing with crystals.utis, stones here is a group that is absolutely excellent. That is all they deal with on a daily basis. They know many natural products your vet will never tell you about. And all the owners etc have all been where you have been.Again i know the cost is horrendous.I'm sorry.
