This story has gotten quite a bit of coverage in Germany the past few years. This is the latest installment:

Friends for Life: Mäuschen (Little Mouse) and Muschi United

The unusual animal friendship between the 500-kilogram female bear "Mäuschen" and the little cat "Muschi" has lasted despite all the obstacles. After three years of living together, the oddest couple in Berlin's Zoological Garden had been forced to separate due to construction work on the bear enclosure.
But the black cat didn't give up. Zoo director Heiner Klös told dpa: "Muschi came every day and was back again every night, meowing plaintively." The close friendship won. Now they have been reunited.
The cat looked for and called Mäuschen until the zoo management showed some understanding and let her back in with the bear after weeks of separation. A keeper reported: "When the cat saw her partner again, she ran to her, the bear spread out her paws, the cat rolled up between them, and purred".

Thank you! I tried deleting it myself, but it didn't work. A few months ago I read a story about a whole family of cats living in the kangaroo enclosure at a zoo - I think it was in South Africa. The cats and kangaroos played together and groomed each other.

Valanhb now I know why It say it is invalit thread , when I was replying to it .

I think this is so cute

I have seen on tv that a UrangUtan (sp) ( big monkey ) had a cat as a friend I think it also was in a zoo . When the cat passed away they had to give that big ape a kitten again so he/she would stop grieving over the cat . And the big ape was very happy with the kitten and was not grieving any more
. It is interesting what cats can not only do to humans , also to other kind of animals

I know the story of a gorilla named Koko, that was given a kitten to have as a friend. The two were inseperable until the cat was hit by a car. The scientists that were caring for Koko (teaching her sign language) were so sad to hear the gorilla crying all day (I saw this on T.V. It was heartbreaking. They filmed the outside of the building where the gorilla was kept and all you heard was the closest to crying you'd ever imagine a gorilla could come to.) The people gave Koko another cat, and she was happy again.

thh20 , it was a while back when I have seen that on tv so I was not sure . All I knew it was not a small monkey . Koko was heartbroken for sure I remember that and remember that they have to give him a kitten since a grown cat was afraid of him . I just could not remember all of it any more .
