I am thinking of replacing the shower curtain in my shower stall. This kind hooks over with shower rod without hooks. The liner snaps on about 2/3 of the way down the curtain. I wonder how well it works because our shower liner is wet all the way to the top after showering. It seems like water would run down between the outside curtain and where the liner snaps on and wet the floor. Just wondering if any of you have tried this type of curtain with the snap in liner.

It sounds like you will have to wash the top part sometimes since it often gets wet. In my experience, metal grommets do not wash well, especially those huge ones. I believe this shower curtain is for people who love the look of the big grommets but want it to last past one washing. If you have shower curtain hooks (instead of those horrible rings), it's very easy to take the shower curtain off for washing.

I tend to wash our shower curtains pretty often, so I buy the cloth liners that have buttonholes at the top instead of metal grommets. They last forever. Also, the cloth is polyester and doesn't pollute the air in the house for months like PVC shower curtains do.

swampwitch swampwitch Thank you for the input. The outer curtain is cloth, the liner is some sort of plastic. I have never seen the cloth liners that you are talking about. My outer curtain is about 12 years old and is still in fair shape. It has button holes. The plastic liners I have always used have metal around the holes. As a result, eventually they rust, which has created some stains on my cloth curtain. I have a struggle using the ones with hooks because I am so short. Even when I stand in the shower, I struggle to reach them to take them off the hooks. Then I struggle to put them back.

I thought this one with the shorter liner might solve the problem, but I am still concerned the water will seep between the liner and curtain and wet the floor.

Yes I have one up like that right now, I love them.  I have had mine for quite a few years now but have changed the inside liner a few times.

larussa larussa Thank you for the reply. Can you give an answer to my question about these. When it gets wet over the top of the snaps and liner, does that drip down between the outer courtain and the shower liner and wet the floor. Also what kind of rod do you have it hung on. The ones I have seen hang on a curved rod.

No water never drops between the two curtains.  The plastic liner I have came with the curtain and snaps on in the middle of the shower curtain.  My rod is just a straight one from wall to wall. Hope this helps you.

I also use a fabric shower curtain liner.  I've had it for over 4 years and with regular washing it is still in good condition.   They are more expensive than the plastic ones, but so worth the extra cost.

Here's a link to some: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/s/fabric-shower-curtain-liner?ta=typeahead

Also, yes, hooks make the whole laundering job much easier than those rings!

You have me curious about these fabric shower liners now. I will investigate these before I make any purchases. Thank you for the input

I'm having the same problem with our master shower, so I bought a little stepstool, but I use it all around the house. The master bath has a crazy 14-foot high ceiling (goes even higher up to the skylight) and the shower head and curtain are up 8-9 feet. When I'm in there and look up I feel so small, lol. The shower head slides down, thankfully, but I think maybe a giant lived here.

Anyway, I've noticed that polyester liners are available at pretty much all bed and bath or home stores, but you have to check if the tops are grommets or buttonhole. Some are stiffer and more plastic-like; I like the soft ones that are just cloth. I wash them in very hot water. They come in white or cream, so not the most exciting, but if you are looking for durable and healthy they are great.

p.s. In our old house, we had double shower hooks like these http://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/stor...s-set-of-12/126072?Keyword=double+shower+hook. We had the polyester liner getting wet on the inside, with a cloth shower curtain on the outside. The liner got washed a lot, the outside curtain only now and then. It worked really well then, but doesn't work in our house now.
swampwitch swampwitch They are kind of neat looking. I have never seen them. Do they rust? Also, if you just remove the liner for washing does the hook stay in place?

I appreciate your input in trying to help me. Thank you.

No, the double hooks didn't rust, and yes, they stay in place when you remove the liner. You can use the double hooks with one or two curtains, works either way. The kind with the little rollerballs are really the way to go - our other set was just hooks that dragged across the rod and a few of those did get rust spots.

swampwitch swampwitch Again, thank you for answering. While hubby and I were sitting on our screen porch this morning having coffee, I was discussing what you said about the cloth curtains and the hooks, etc. I told him they are at Bed Bath and Beyond. We don't have a local store, but about an hours drive to one. Or I can search their website. Later today I can do that after I make our lunch and finish what I have to do here on this site. Have a good Sunday.

I use this type of shower curtain and love it!  Looks so much nicer than having those ugly hooks.  My liner snaps on just below the rings at the top though, not 2/3 way down.   I don't have any issue with water leakage.

natalie_ca natalie_ca May I ask where you found your curtain. I would like it better if the liner went all the way up I think.
