Hey Guys!

So, due to recent money troubles I had to cut expenses back. And, since my boy eats the expensive 'Blue Buffalo - Wilderness', cat food had to be one of those expenses.

I love Blue Buffalo, my cat loves Blue Buffalo. He won't touch Purina or Hills.

Naturally, I needed to experiment, but it had to be done in an affordable way.

I shop at PetSmart a lot, so I get discounts, so that's where I started browsing online at prices and looking at ingredients. I did some other Google-searching on other brands at other places. But, for everything in my ideal price range it felt like my options were all bags that just listed by-product + a bunch of hard to pronounce minerals.

It's official, Blue Buffalo has made me a food snob. The last time I had cats I used to snort and roll my eyes at people in line at the store while they raved about "Holistic" and "Real Chicken!" while I held my economy-size bag of Purina One that was on sale and tapped my foot impatiently.

Then I didn't have a pet for awhile, I became a Veterinary Technician and now that I have a kitten I'm obsessed with nutrition. It kills me that my 6 month old kitten doesn't want wet food. He eats Blue Buffalo because I am now a "fru-fru" pet owner who wants apple bits, carrots and oatmeal in my pet food! Plus, I tried other brands and he turns his nose up at them.

I wanted something I could afford that had a hint of veggies in it and a minimal amount of by-product.

On the PetSmart website I came across a FANTASTICALLY priced brand that I had never heard of before called "Good Natured".

I Googled it, but couldn't find results anywhere but PetSmart.

Turns out: It's a brand new PetSmart specific brand! I really like the ingredients: No by-product, hints of veggies, dried egg and the usual necessary minerals and the added omegas.

I just wanted to throw it out there because I know a lot of people ask about affordable foods that are nutritious for foster situations and such! I'm currently in the middle of switching Gage to it (mixing it with the Blue Buffalo) and he seems to eat all of it! So far so good! No GI upset and he will actually eat it!

Here is a picture if you want to look it up on the PetSmart website!

If anyone isn't a fan of PetSmart or anything weird, or has had experience with this brand - please feel free to comment! I am just starting out with the food and, though I am having good experience with it so far, don't want to lead anyone in the wrong direction!

Thanks for posting this, it definitely seems like it could be a good food - especially for the price! Please let us know if you have any problems with it. :) Otherwise, I may have to try it!

The wet food looks great too, it looks about the same price at Chicken Soup for the Soul brand cat food, but without all the grains mixed in!

Just giving an update!

Gage is almost to the bottom of the bag now!

Stools are great, fur looks great, kitty looks great!

Seems like a nice food for an affordable price! =D

I'll have to give that a try. My ex-stray has become a snob who only eats Royal Canin wet kitten food (the thin slices in gravy, he won't touch the pate), and that stuff is crazy expensive. It was the only thing he would touch during a bout of diarrhea, but I really, really want to wean him off of it.

Let us know if he winds up liking it!

I haven't tried the wet food yet since my boy is still a kitten and they haven't seemed to release a kitten version of the canned food.

But, I'm interested to see if kitties think it is tasty!

Oh, that's so fantastic to hear! I'm really hoping to get this food more attention since it's new! It's such an awesome price for the ingredients!

I'm excited to have Gage try the wet foods when he's a little older! For now he is still eating Blue Wilderness canned since I have a bunch left (and he's not really a huge canned food fan to begin with).

Just wanted to give 1 final update now that Gage has been on the food for over a month!

He didn't have 1 single instance of tummy upset. He LOVES eating it! And his coat looks shiny and healthy!

I bought the 16lb bag and put the whole thing in an air-tight pet food container! Should last us awhile!

I will continue feeding him Nutro kitten canned food until he can eat the Good Natured adult canned! (still haven't seen any sign of a kitten canned food from them yet)

Here's Gage hanging out in front of the food container. He likes to lay in this trash bin. We keep it clean and empty. lol xD

He's a cutie!

It's okay to feed a kitten adult food.   Wet food is better for him anyway and its recommended to introduce wet food to them when they are kittens because that is when they learn what food is

Oh, Gage knows what wet food is!

I'm a veterinary technician! Gage's litter was brought into our clinic when they were 3 weeks old. They were found in a bush near a client's apartment building.

He was bottle fed until just under 5 weeks and placed on wet food until about 10 weeks of age when I started adding dry into his diet.

Once the dry food was introduced he didn't want to pay attention to the wet food anymore. I have always offered wet food, but alllllll he wanted was the crunchies. Now that he is almost 7 months old I'm transitioning him to twice a day feeding. While doing this I have offered wet food as his 2nd meal of the day, but he hardly touches it. The only brand I can get him to eat about a 1/2 of a 3oz can of is the Nutro Kitten Salmon & Gravy flavor. I understand that especially as a male cat it is better for him to preferably get more wet food than dry to supplement hydration to help avoid things like urinary crystals and kidney issues as he gets older, but luckily so far he is a really good water drinker.

I know it would probably be fine to feed him adult food, but I just want to make sure he gets all the nutrition he needs as a kitten. I'll start transitioning to adult as he gets closer to a year of age as directed by my veterinarians. =]

My cats are on this food currently. They've been on it for probably 2 months now and recently both of my fur babies have been vomiting. I think that this might be the cause as nothing else has changed in their life.

If your cats have been on the food for 2 months already and only just recently started vomiting I don't think it is the food. If they were having a bad reaction the vomiting would have started a lot sooner than that. I would take them to the vet if it continues. They might have gotten into something they were not supposed to. That being said all cats are different and it might be upsetting their tummy, but like I said that's a very delayed reaction to be an issue with the food. If you decide to do any food changes do it slowly over 7-10 days as to not make the vomiting worse or have diarrhea become an issue.

I went ahead and added this line to our reviews sections. Those who have tried it, please do add a review! If you do that within the next 5 days, you will also be raising $1 for cats in need!

Thanks, Anne!

I originally went looking to review it there and was sad it wasn't on the list! Awesome!

I just bought a bag for my cats, glad to hear yours is doing so well on it.  I also have previously been feeding my cats much more expensive

food but decided today to give this a shot.  Hope they like it, it looks really good and the ingredients are good.

please post and let us know if your cats like it. I'm thinking of moving my fosters to this. Problem is I can not get the ash and magnesium content from petsmart and I worry about uti's

My cat is an indoor cat.  If we'd like to try out this food, should we get the Indoor or Grain Free variety?  Any benefits to either one?
