Hi all!

Over this past weekend my 10-year old Siamese stayed at his vet's boarding facility while I went on a short business trip. When he returned he was, as expected, excited to be home. He graced my sister and me with his usual yowling and chatting (which I actually asked about here when I first adopted him a few months back! Good news on that front--he mostly calmed down and we got used to his shouting enough to sleep through it.). He was a little more restless than usual, but I expected as much.

However, he seems to have picked up a new vocalization at the boarding facility. It's slightly higher pitched and sounds like he's being stabbed to death, and it always pulls me straight out of sleep and into a moment of panic, ha! If it was his normal type of yowling, just louder, I wouldn't be too worried, and would just let him get used to being home again after the shock of being abandoned for two days. But the all-new vocalization is making me wonder if this is normal. He does it quite a bit at night, but it extends to the day too.

Has anyone else's cat picked up a new way to howl at a boarding facility? Is Christopher just yelling at me for being a bad parent?

I mentioned a foster girl I had in your other thread.. she did this whenever there was a change in her environment.  Even though your boy is home now, it's still a change from where he was.

If you're at all concerned, though, you could have him checked over by the vet.

I'll wait it out. He was at his own vet's boarding facility, and they didn't notice anything odd about him. And he's eating and using the litter box perfectly fine. He's just (understandably) clingy (I mean, he was in the shelter for months before I adopted him, and he was sick for a while there). He cooled down after about two weeks when I first adopted him, so I'm hoping time will heal all wounds. :)

Until then, I might grab some Feliway and see if it helps him at night. And some earplugs for me. :D
