So I was reading a forum thread somewhere and someone said that her cat got UTI's or something of that nature after being on Wellness canned food and that the vet agreed that it was related to the Wellness food. What in the world?! The only scenario that I can think of where Wellness food would cause UTI's is if someone fed only the fish flavors or something.

My pickier cat likes to rotate between the Wellness chicken and turkey flavors.

Is there any merit to that concern?

I hope not--the only brand my cat will eat these days is Wellness! If you scroll down on this post, a vet (post #24) has talked about what she thinks about wet, canned Wellness causing UTIs, and there's no evidence that it should. In fact, if anything, it should be a good food for cats prone to UTIs. However, there are people who will swear up and down that it caused UTIs in their cats.

I would probably say, if your cat gets a UTI, see what stopping Wellness does for him. If he doesn't get a UTI, don't worry about it.

I have read the same thing on several occasions .  I do not know if  this is fact or not but I never bothered to really get into as my cats hate Wellness anyway ..

It makes me wonder if I should try some different brands for my cat.

My cat is allergic to just about everything in canned cat foods. The only thing she can eat is Wellness Turkey, she has been on this canned food since 2011 and has never had any problems on it. She can't eat the chicken but does fine on the turkey.

My picky cat so far likes Wellness chicken, Wellness turkey, Spot's Stew Turkey, and Fancy Feast chicken and liver classic. He won't touch Blue Wilderness or 4 Health brands for some reason. I don't want to keep getting Spot's Stew because of the garlic powder so that just leaves the others, plus whatever else I can convince him to try.

I read the same thing because i feed Wellness Kitten in my rotation for my kittens and I can't find any actual evidence that Wellness caused UTI issues. There's basically no science to back up the internet claims other than a few people said they think it was food or "one vet" said it was the food. Some cats are just prone to UTI's no matter what, so you're going to get people saying it was the food when it's probably just genetics.

I think variety is good though so I don't feed one brand exclusively. If you can adding in more brands and flavors is always helpful.

I have read that it is both ..  If you read enough reviews ( on Amazon.com for example) you   will see  bad reviews on just about every brand of pet food .. It seems that if a pet has a certain condition while eating a certain brand of food then that person automatically  assumes the food must have done  it ..
