So I have a 3 month old kitten and apparently my roommate doesn't do a very good job of looking after him while I'm at work. I guess my roommate took a nap and left a whole steak burrito from chipotle on the coffee table and my little Dallas ate the WHOLE thing (although decided to leave the lettuce). He is a pretty tiny little kitten and has only eaten kitten chow and the occasional can of wet food, but I'm a little concerned about the effect this burrito is going to have on him considering that chipotle can even mess up a human sometimes.

Should I prepare a new litter box, will there be vomiting, is this a serious thing and he will need to go to the vet?

Anyone have any input on this situation>?

Well- it depends on the ingredients inside the burrito. And your cats health of course. I'd recommend preparing for a trip to the vet if your kitten does more than pooping, since chipotle burritos have onions and garlic and such.
But I'd still go to the vet just in case.

The burrito had steak, cheese, corn salsa, and pico de gallo salsa in it. I got home and he is sprinting around the house like his usual self though. Maybe it will hit him later or something, but I'm going to for sure keep an eye on him. He is so tiny! I can't imagine him eating a whole burrito considering even I can't finish a whole one!

Unless you see him in serious distress I think you can safely avoid the vet. Be prepared for some possible gastrointestinal upset though.  Read:  stinky poop.

Is it weird that I now REALLY want Chipotle?

Good luck with your kitten! I'm sure he'll be fine. :)

Update:

Dallas seems unaffected by the burrito incident. He was jumping on and off the bed, attacking my cat Blair and sprinting around with no trouble even though he was carrying an entire burrito in his little 3 pound body. He even tried to snatch some food from my cat Blair and seemed to still be hungry. He is a cray!

Cleaning the litter box this morning was not a pleasant task lol

Hungry kitteh was hungry!

Had Chipotle for lunch today, so funny to see this.  At least, given that he seems to be fine and it's all over now, it is funny.  I'm not surprised the litter box was a bit unusual this morning. The burrito has a lot of things that really aren't of nutritional use for the cat, but the main harmful thing would be the onions. I guess they were still not enough to do much of anything more than you've already seen.  At over 24 hours later, I wouldn't think there is any other ill effect left.

Kittens get into a lot of things of course but even a mellow adult cat would be tempted by food left unattended and within reach.  My cats are really good, completely non-destructive and not too interested in our human food, but if I left a burrito sitting out where they could get to it, I'm pretty sure at least one of them would!

I guess I got lucky with my first baby Blair. She's 2 years old now, but even when she was a baby she was never interested in people food. I could leave anything out and she would just leave it be. Sometimes I would even try to tempt her with some food out of curiosity and she would act offended lol

My crazy little dragon Dallas is a different story. He was abandoned on the side of a highway when I found him at only a month old, so I think he must have went quite a while without food and now he is definitely not going to miss any meals.

He goes nuts when I try and eat anything. I have to put him in another room when I eat because he persistently climbs on me like it could be his last chance to eat. He has even tried to stick his tiny little head inside my mouth to get a bite of steak. He really is crazy about food.

So I guess I shouldn't be surprised he ate a whole burrito and lived to tell. lol I'm always good about making sure I don't leave food around for him to get, but my roommate isn't the best about cleaning up after himself lol Men! haha

Feed him more canned food he is obviously hungry, has he been wormed? That makes them ravenous

I feed him quite regularly and often, and he has had a full work-up and been given the healthy OK from the vet. I think he just has a different mentality about food since he was abandoned at birth and went a long time without food.

-Thanks for all the kind words everyone, I'm quite proud of my little dragon Dallas Targaryen ;)

I'm glad he is okay.  That is pretty funny though!  A whole burrito!  My boy Sawyer likes to try and steal my food when I eat as well.  Ever since I got him at 8 weeks he will sit on my lap and try to reach up to look on my plate or bowl and see what is in there, he even used to paw at my mouth as well.  So funny!

Yea I have to feed my 2 year old Blair and little 3 month old Dallas at separate times because Dallas is a food hog and will run back and forth between the two food bowls across the room to stop Blair from eating anything. If I don't feed them separately than poor Blair would never get to eat, she isn't that aggressive when it comes to food.
