Hello everyone! My cat for the past week or so has been wheezing and coughing whenever she gets excited or moves from her slumber.

I don't think it is hairballs because she has never had a hairball problem before, and no hair balls are coming out. She seems to just wheeze and cough until she spits a bit. It's heart wrenching to watch and it makes me sad i just hope it's nothing serious. I read it could be asthma or something?

I am hoping someone here can help. Please watch the video of my baby!

Kitty coughs can be serious and I think it'd be good to get her checked out at the vet. Coughing isn't something to wait too long on if it persists. It could be asthma, or a respiratory infection or a heart condition; could be a myriad of things. If you take her to the vet, and her lungs and heart are clear based on a physical exam, they may recommend an x-ray to rule out other possibilities.

I agree with fluffscruff that it's worth a vet visit. It sounds like these are frequent attacks, which is especially troubling.

Anecdotally... One of our cats had a few brief coughing episodes shortly after we adopted her: they stopped completely after we switched from Fresh Step kitty litter to Dr. Elsey's Respiratory Relief. It's been a year and a half now; I think she had an allergy or sensitivity to all the dust and perfumes in Fresh Step.

Good luck! I hope it's also something simple for your cat!

Thank you so much for your replies! She is still coughing and wheezing like that as of today. I am so hesitant to take her to the vet because she is a very nervous cat and it will be something very hard to do but if this does not stop i will have to.

Our cat who coughed is a nervous cat, too: that's apparently often a factor in asthma. I'd definitely suggest considering new kitty litter if you're using something dusty and/or perfumed, like Fresh Step. I still can't believe (and, neither, I suspect, can the vet!) how quickly it helped our cat.
