So I found a kitten in the parking lot at my work, and it's maybe ten weeks old. It's refusing to eat, even butter and milk (I know that's a no no but it's the best while I'm at work, I have kmr at home). And when you pick her up she just goes limp. It's like she has lockjaw, but she can open her mouth to meow and stuff. I'm not sure what to do, as it's almost 9 pm here and no one is open! Help!

Are you at work now? When will you be home? Are you taking the kitten home with you?

You need to offer the kitten wet food to eat. If you just found the kitten it is probably scared and stressed right now, but will probably eat eventually when it feels safer.

Could the kitten be part ragdoll?  Some go limp when picked up.  Thank you for taking this kitten in. Don't give up.  Yogurt is okay to give to cats, unflavored if possible.  Is there any of that in the fridge?

We don't have yogurt, but we are home and have force fed her some kmr. She's almost unresponsive, won't move her eyes or her body. She's almost all black, except for a little white on her tummy. Her gums are white, but she doesn't seem dehydrated. She wouldn't even eat the wet food, she's so weak, so wet had to force feed her that too.

Oh dear! She does not sound well at all. If she's that weak then she's probably severely dehydrated and may have fever.

She'll need to see a vet first thing tomorrow. Sounds like she needs sub-q fluids, Nutrical, and probably an antibiotic.

Do you have clear pedialyte to give her? Also smear honey on her gums for a quick pick me up.

You can make homemade pedialyte if need be with water, honey, and salt.

Please keep us posted. Prayers for her tonight.

The problem is that we're not in a financial position to see a vet for even our own kitties :( we think she's been starving for a week now, one of my coworkers said he saw her last week. So we're doing our best, going to feed her as much as I can.

You did what you could to make her comfortable, She may have distemper. And only a vet
would know what to do.

Well she made it through the night, but she's still basically unresponsive. Her gums have a little more color and her breathing seems a bit faster. My boyfriend and I work opposite shifts today so we'll both be able to keep an eye on her and feed her.

And I'm not sure it's distemper because the only symptom she has is maybe a fever, and a fever is common with most other illnesses. She's been outside for over a week with no food though, and I hadn't seen her until last night, so I don't know how she's been up to now.

They think she's gone, but the vet is gonna take a look at her after he's out of surgery with another animal...

You are doing all you can, and a lot more then most people would do, so bless you for trying to help. The not eating doesn't sound good at all, I lost so many feral kittens this summer to distemper, and that was the first sign. We even had them vaccinated, but by that time it was too late.  I know how helpless you feel, my heart goes out to you. That sweet kitten felt love and warmth, even for a little while, that is all they want.  Prayers to you.

So update, little one didn't make it :( we buried her this afternoon in the back. All I can say is that I'm just glad she didn't die in the rain alone and scared.

Thank goodness you were able to give her shelter and love for her last day, and a decent burial. Thank you for trying.

I'm so sorry. She was loved by you in her last hours and kept comfortable and safe. You did a great thing for that sweet baby.

On behalf of The Cat Site Team, we are truly sorry for the loss of your kitten. Thank you for doing all you could. It is a wonderful thing that this little one knew love and a home in the last hours of its life.
When you feel up to it, please post a memorial tribute in the Crossing the Bridge Forum http://www.thecatsite.com/f/19/crossing-the-bridge.

As a way to show sympathy and respect for the loss of precious fur babies, threads like this are locked. Again, we are so sorry.
