I don't want him roaming the house when i can't supervise him so i I keep him in my room at night (which is mostly for 14-15 hours). He hates being confined to this room since he was a little kitten....but i don't know what else to do with him at night.

Since last week i haven't noticed much pee in the litter box.....maybe just 1 clump per night....and no poop.

Every morning as soon as i open the door of my room, he rushes downstairs to use the other litter box and mostly poops in it right away. Last night, for the first time, he leaked liquidy diarrhea-like poop around his litter box (but no odour) and i am very worried. I don't want him to get urinary tract infection or other urine/poop related illness just because i lock him in a room that he does not like.

He is 5 months old.

he eats and drinks normal and i am feeding him good brand kitten food, so that's not an issue....he's neutered too.....and last vet check was normal.

there's liquidy poop inside the litter box too i just checked. i  think he got to the litter box a little late due to which he leaked some on the way. but why is he pooping liquid-form? how can i reduce his stress at night? i can't change rooms.

Just thinking outside the box here....can you switch the litter box he likes to your room and put the other one where that one came from?

The liquid poop is a problem....diarrhea is a sign of possible worms or other parasite. Has he been dewormed already? Have you seen a vet?

That makes me think that something about the environment around the litter box in your room is distressing him. If he's vaccinated and an indoor kitty, then the diarrhea is most likely stress-induced (unless he's got other symptoms of some kind of ailment)

Check out this list of reasons cats avoid litter boxes and see if one of these fits your scenario:

Oh, you said he was dewormed once. Sometimes it takes a couple of treatments. May or may not be related to the litter box issue but I would ask the vet if they recommend a 2nd deworming. Parasites are such a huge problem with street rescues in the Philippines that my vet does two dewormings (2 weeks apart) per cat by default. If there is firm evidence of worms at the time the 2nd does is administered sometimes they even go for 3.

Sorry if I missed this but how long have you had him and where did he come from?

i have had him for about 2 months and i got him from a shelter. he was dewormed at the shelter, after that i got his stool test done at my vet's.....they said everything was normal. although the vet mentioned that kittens normally need a series of deworming and not just 1, but after the result came out negative he didn't say anything about more deworming.

thank you for the link @juleska. i think placement might be an issue.....i changed its' opening's direction 2-3 weeks ago. i'll try changing it back to how it used to be and see if that helps.

He's probably good then, just wanted to rule out the possibility that his diarrhea was medical. Sounds like stress then. Let us know how it works out!
