Hi everyone,
I have a 5 months old kitten and she is a really good kid. I decided to take her in for desexing surgery this morning and just picked her up from a High street vet clinic. I'm very disappointed and furious at the same time because she is in horrible situation. She is shaking, scared even home in the first 10 mins, she is smelly (i just gave her a bath yesterday??) and most of all her stitches are terrible. I cant believe they can do that i will attach the photo in here. I called immediately to the clinic after i found out and the receptionist told me the Dr. would call me back at 7pm which is their closing time. I'm so mad I couldn't say anything but ok i would wait for his call. My little poor kitten. I feel so sorry and regretful that i let her in there for this awful service. What should I do now?? Should i come to their office tomorrow and sort this out?? I really need an explanation from whoever did this surgery to my cat???

Can we see photos? I had on kitty come back from spaying and she looked butchered with an incision from her abdomen to close to her chest it look horrible. I didn't get any explanation and because it was my first cat thought that was normal. It was only when I took a second cat in that came back with a tiny incicision did I ask what the deal was. I was told that the first kittys ovaries were high in the abdomen and not in the usual place so a higher cut had to be made. I'm not sure if this was the truth but that is what I was told. I'm not sure if that is what you are dealing with.

This is what it looks like. Is this the same with your cat?? I got a call back from the clinic and that vet explained to me that they have do to it that long (about 8cm long I reckon) so when they take the sutures out it would be easier in case of an aggressive cat or so??? I dont really get it and when I asked him that it looks totally different in an awful way compare to what I saw on youtube (desexing video clips to get some knowledge beforehand) he just simply said well they (vet on youtube) are professional and have many years of experience??? Excuse me *** did you just say??? I'm so mad that I said ok and bye and off the phone. I still have to come back there in 10-14 days to have the sutures removed but I'm so unpleased and annoyed................

Yep that's what it looked like. But I got a different excuse. Looks like I wasn't told the truth either. I'm so sorry. This isn't what it usually is supposed to look like as I later discovered. Your kitty will be ok as was mine. Back then they didn't give these kittys pain meds I think yours should have some from the vet free of charge. Mine recovered just fine from this type of botched procedure and yours will too. It doesn't make it any easier I know. I was too naive back then it seems....

Yes i got the pain relief med from the vet and I had to pay for it about $20 for a 3ml liquid one.... Anyhow dont want to come back there again. Did your cat eat that night when she first got home?? Mine just keep sleeping and drink some water didnt eat anything at all i'm so worried.... Thank you so much for your sharing!!! It really helps

From what I remember she was out for a couple days not active at all and not eating too much and that was with no pain meds. I just moved the litter box and food near where she was. She was ok after the stitches were removed.

My Chrissy was in terrible shape when she got back from the vets, she didn't move for 3 days and didn't eat or drink hardly at all. She recovered fine but i wonder what they did different. Now I had a stray spayed she was up and normal as soon as she came home, her incision is tiny and glued shut, no stitches, you can hardly see it!!! Difference in vets?

I had the same vet do both my kittys but different times. I'm not sure what the answers is. My Ambi is no longer with me but I'd be glad knowing what the truth really is.

Some vets do sloppy stitches but this doesn't necessarily mean they didn't do a good job. I've had a lot of cats spayed by a lot of different vets and the tidiness of the stitches doesn't seem to make any difference in recovery. A 5-month-old should recover fairly quickly, so if she seems overly bruised or sore, that would concern me more than the stitches. Older cats take longer to recover though. Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon! :vibes:

What concerned me when I saw my second female spayed is that she had one stitch and an incision that looked tiny. That isn't what my first female I got spayed look like she had an incision that was about and inch and a half and looked like hazelng's kitty. I was told her overies were much higher in her abdomen as an excuse and hazelng kitty they told her some other excuse. I had the same vet do both my kittys. Again it's just difficult to deal with because one tiny incision and one tiny suture is what everyone wants for their kitty. I have had at least 10 cats since then spayed and never got that large incision back so I assumed what is was told was correct. It's just a shame that neither of us will ever really know the truth. Mine has passed away and had hers done 20 years ago when no pain medication was given to animals that were spayed and I was too naive to know any better so in hindsight I'm just upset she has to suffer and I didn't really know how much. . .
