I have had my precious Willow since April, and she has always had an issue with food.

Not with eating it, she looooves food; just with digesting it!!

She has had loose stool since we got her, and while we have done testing and some meds for bacteria, it really looks like her problem is with food. I have tried her on a couple of different foods, slowly transitioning her and each have had the same result - loose stool.

Another issue is, is that even if I give her the smallest bit of wet food, the end result is explosive number 3s.

The only thing that seems to get her to formed, but still soft, stool is Royal Canin Kitten food, probiotic and s. Bourladii.

I want her to have a better diet, but I was just wondering if there were any cat parents out there who has experienced something similar?

Food attempted:
Blackhawk - this was what the breeder said she was feeding Willow - and her poops were 'fine' :rolleyes2
Canidae
Eukanuba
Royal Canin

All dry food - wet food just seems to go straight through her.

I am sorry I will be not much help in suggesting food brands as I am in the US  ..  You mentioned the breeder was feeding Blackhawk and Willow was doing fine on it . Why not stay with that ?

Because she never did 'fine' with me - I made sure I asked and got the same food the breeder had, and Willow's poops were very loose. Don't want to say that the breeder lied, but I honestly don't see how she was ever 'fine'

Yeah , that is odd ..  Can you try a different Royal Canin formula ?   Special 33 is supposed to be for sensitive tummies ..

In your other thread you said she was diagnosed with clostridium perfringens.  Did you receive antibiotics for that, and if you did, did you finish up that round of them?  And how much of the S. Boulardi are you giving her?  Per this article,http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/digestive/c_ct_clostridial_enterotoxicosis?page=show, cats with this issue need high fiber food (always), so are the foods you are giving her high fiber?  If not, I would try looking for foods that fall into that category.  Adding pumpkin to wet food will up the fiber, so  you might be able to give her some wet food, especially if you start with a high fiber wet food.

This website lists some high fiber foods, both wet and dry.  Some are prescription, some are not.  http://www.kittycoaching.com/cat-food/high-fiber-cat-food/

Thanks for that msgreenjeans, I haven't seen that article about the fibre! Yes, she underwent weeks of Flagyl and Tylan - the only time her stool changed was when I put her on Royal Canin kitten (which has 2.2% fibre, I just checked). I give her half a capsule of s bourladii morning and night.

I might try pumpkin - I really want to get her on a wet food as I know dry is not good for her! Thanks for the link to high fibre food too

My adopted cat, Ruby, had loose stools from when I first adopted her.  At the vet's recommendation I started feeding her Royal Canin hypo-allergenic "duck" canned food, and it cleared up her diarrhea literally overnight.

She also used to vomit a clear liquid between meals, and the food change stopped that, as well.

Occasionally I've given her a different gastro-intestional food just "for a change" and though she loves it,  her stomach doesn't, so it's always back to the hypo-allergenic.

Well I started giving Willow pumpkin yesterday, which has turned her poop to liquid this morning :( :(

How disappointing
.  How much did you give her?  Usually it's 1 teaspoon per meal, up to 1 T per day.  But with Willow, who can tell

You did do a PCR test with her, right?  That's how the clostridium perfringens was discovered?  If not, I would do that.  If so, then perhaps she does have some food allergies, and a single protein or hypo allergenic food  like Ruby needs is going to be the trick

I only started her on a quarter of a teaspoon twice a day, but am upping it to a teaspoon and will give it a few more days to see

Yep, did a PCR test to see what was wrong, and that's how the bacteria was discovered

I am almost thinking that I am just never going to get this sorted for her :(

Well, I'm sure your frustrated, but don't give up yet
.  You haven't tried the food switch yet, have you?  (to either a higher fiber, or a hyper-allergenic?  Hopefully one or the other will do the trick, if the pumpkin doesnt.  and you are using plain pumpkin, right?  (as opposed to pumpkin pie filling).

I'm wondering if what is suggested in this thread might help, just to give her intestines a break?  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/253036/help-explosive-poop#post_3291827     It's not nutritionally complete, but should be ok for a few days, even at her age, I would think.

Hang in there

Thanks mrsgreenjeens mrsgreenjeens , I will definitely keep going as I really want it resolved for her!! Other than her digestion and the night time face nibbling :lol3:, she is a lovely kitten :)

I cook the pumpkin myself, we don't have the convenience option here in Australia like you guys do! So definitely no pie filling. And I haven't tried a diet change yet; I was going to stick with the pumpkin for a few days before trying another diet change.

Thanks for the link, I might give her a rest, I am just nervous about continually aggravating her system!

I've been having this problem with my KK whom i brought home a month ago at 8weeks old.. Vet says he's fine, it's probably the food.. I tried most (a lot of brands actually, even wet ones too which were worse) of the "best" foods for him but he couldnt take it.. Poo was really mushy and sometimes watery, makes lots of mess everyday =P

Came across this Brit Care dry cat food for sensitive digestion.. Thank god! It worked beautifully! Perfect poop (as quoted by the pet shop who did pet boarding for him for a short while).. I cant find much review on this particular food so i was a lil sorry i couldnt give him the best.. But seeing his poop perfect and coat getting softer and more glossy, i feel kinda relieved..

This is the one i bought for him (never changing again! Yay!) and i just started added salmon oil once a day.. So far so good.. Hope this helps!

Just a quick update - I have found a significant improvement with Ziwipeak air dried AND canned  She has now been transitioned purely on this food and her poops are so much better. They aren't perfect, but I almost get the feeling Willow will always be a problem child :lol3: It's an expensive food, but worth it!

Good to hear you've found something that works for Willow.  It's always the expensive food that work, isn't it.

Good news!  And are you giving her the S. Boulardi still?  Did you know there is actually a probiotic out there that has S. Boulardi in it.  Many folks here use it.  Not sure if I mentioned it on your other thread or not.  I would certainly think having her on a good probiotic would be helpful, if you aren't already doing that.   This is the one:  .  In case you can't open the link since you're in Australia, it's called Nexabiotic

I've weaned her off the s. Boulardii (she's a bit upset about that since she loved it!) and I do give her a probiotic called Protexin - I would love to give her Nexabiotic but Amazon doesn't ship to Australia and I can't find an Australian stockist :(
