My Benny (6 months, neutered male) is super adventurous, curious and fearless!  He's only afraid of water and the vacum as far as I can tell.  This means hissing, loud noises, and clapping does not scare him.  This is good and bad.  It's hard to stop him from running out my door!  I'm not going to carry a water gun in my purse -_-.  He has succeeded in running out quite a few times.  His intent isn't to run away from home, it's just to explore so I've been able to catch him pretty easily.  I have ordered a walking vest from amazon but I prefer not have to use it at this moment.  I live in an apartment and it's just not that clean here.  Many dogs poo and pee all over the place and their owners often times do not pick up after their dog.  Nasty!  If I had my own house with a yard I would have no problem taking him out for walks.  I'm planning on getting a kitten for him regardless of this situation sometime in October.  Would this new playmate help curb his curiosity for the outdoors?

It's always hard to say whether a new cat will help or hurt the situation.  It just depends on the temperment of both cats.  You would not want a meek kitty or one that is a bully either.  Just be sure if you do get another cat that you follow cat to cat introductions.  It is not advisable to just plop the new kitty down and hope the cats become instant best friends.  I can post some articles and a great video on cat to cat introductions techniques if you are interested.

As far as walking the kitty, you could take to wiping his feet off with baby wipes or a wash cloth after a walk.  If you have an outside space, you could place him in a cat tent.  They fold up nicely to store inside and open up to be used outside under supervision.

Yet, your best course of action is to keep him safely inside.  There are so many dangers about cats being outside.  Inside is always the best choice no matter where the location.

Have you tried playing with him to help burn off his energy?  Try the hunt, catch, kill, eat, groom, sleep technique.  Get a wand toy (such as the da bird) or a laser pointer and a toy he likes to fetch and really get him moving.  Try to have the session last 10-20 minutes so it really tires him out.  He will hunt, catch and kill, the wand, laser or toy.  Next offer him a special snack or small meal.  Make it something special.  This will satisfy the eat portion.  If he is tired out and had a bit to eat, he will then groom himself and take a nap.  This can be done many times throughout the day.

I do play with him some when I get off from work but i know its not enough because hes alone for 16 hrs of the day. When im at work and when im sleeping. This is why im getting him a friend next month. Im planning on doing proper introductions. I have a hunch my resident kitty will be quick to adjust though. Another thing is since hes so curious he just loves doors! Whenever i open the refrigerator or closet doors he comes running. Another thing im worried about walking him is fleas. Hes currently not on preventive flea meds but im afraid he will pick them up from getting walked since its a communal area where many dogs get walked. He gets very upset because i dont let him outside and actually meows/cries/whines like the day i brought him home from the shelter.

Omg. Benny was quiet for a long time. I thought he was staring out the window in my room. But he wasnt there! I started calling his name and i heard his meow and i saw him on the other side of my living room window! He pushed the screen door out in my room. Now hes crying to go back outside. -.- i hope having a buddy will help...
