Hi,

So my cats been put on stress pills Elavil, one full pill a day. He is on these because he has been getting bouts of crystals. My other cat had gotten sick and started chasing sniper from the litter box. I didn't notice this happen until sniper wound up at the vet with a full on crystal blockage. So we hope the pills keep him calm as well as keeping him on a special urinary diet. My question is, he doesn't seem calm to me. He  has been hissing at my other cat, constantly wide eyed. Does anyone else have there cat on stress pills? how does it work for you? is this pretty normal behavior? he didnt act like this before.

That sounds like a reaction to the meds.  Have you tried any other calming agent such as Feliway diffusers, Rescue Remedy, or some of the blends from Jackson Galaxy's Spirit Essences?  Also, maybe add another box so that he's not bullied in the box.

ty I meant to add that. I have tried Feliway spray and collars, as well as a local brand you put in there water. It was of no use either. He has his own area for food and litter as well that my other cat cant get to.

I just want to mention I got him when he was 2 and he didnt have it easy before, no food, being bullied.

So i dont know if its just permanent damage.

If its a reaction should i call the vet right away.

I have a kitty with an inappropriate urination issue when he's not getting enough attention.  We talked to my vet about and she told us she would recommend a medication called Zylkene. It's a newer drug for anxiety and such.  We are trying some behavior modification things that are working, but this med might be a better fit for your kitty.  Also, look at some of the Spirit Essence products.  They have some that are really helpful.
