Sorry, that's the right product.  Make sure it's the saline spray/drops.
The drops actually seemed to have helped,he's more active today but still not eating. I've tried warming his food, trying several kinds of food, ect. I'm not sure how long to expect to need to force feed him. I thought once the congestion cleared he'd be eating again.

Thank you so much! It's just hard knowing now when to transition him to the new food when I just need him to start eating on his own first. I'm hoping he isn't eating just because he's stuffy. Fingers crossed he'll be better tomorrow!

If he's on an appetite stimulant and you're giving it to him, I would think he should already be eating on his own.  I'd definitely call the vet and ask them if they have any other tips to get him to eat and how long it should be before he responds to the meds.

If this is something viral are you sure it isnt feline herpes? You could try giving him some lysine...most vets and stores like petco/petsmart sell it. It usually comes in treat form, you can try that. It is also inexpensive, 10 bucks or so for a bag.

I haven't had him tested for herpes but it may very well be. He was up and about a little today but he's still not eating which is really starting to concern me. He doesn't seem as stuffy which is why I thought he wasn't eating.

Hi Ty.Sorry your baby is struggling.Members have given you some great advice.Food is life & you are good with the BF.gerbers stage 2 (No onions or garlic) chicken is over 100 calories per jar.So true about lysine you can add it to the syringe of BF from the back side.Stir with like a skewer & put the syringe plunger back in.A/D is 180 calories per tuna size can.not really high  in calories but you can almost draw it right from the can into your syringe.Get it from your vet.Or a vet.Usually an appetite stimulant is not given until an anti nausea med is given.Usually.If it isn't working and I am assuming it is mirtzapine which I hate BTW something is really wrong.Food is life like i say and only within a couple of days does the liver start to be affected. You're doing the right thing about syringing.keep on syringing anything you can get him to keep down.how is the other end?is he pooping??constipation is huge cause for inappetance as well.Lysine is a miralce poowder.i used the gel.And even if tested for herpes he will have flareups all his life from time to time.Lysine works excellent for it.There may be something else going on.if it were me and I know it is expensive i would take him back to the vet for further investigation. His nasal passages may be affected and cats go by smell so much.Hydration is also huge during these times.just adding a small amount of water to the BF.Not a slurry but some water helps.Lysine will not hurt him a bit.I would try that asap & if no go take him back to the Doctor.I syringe fed my Maxwell for three months.Tried every food, cat, human anything.no go.he had cancer.I'm not saying your little one does but inappetance for any cat especially given an appet.stimulant something is really wrong IMO.To give you an idea of calories per cat.An average 10 lb kitty eats approx 180 calories per day.But during this time as much as you can get in that stays down. But pls confirm he is evacuating properly at the other end.HTH Hugs C. Sorry about the typing...lol

Enzo doesn't have cancer. He just had full blood work, X-rays and an ultrasound. The vet said its common for cats who can't smell because of congestion to not eat even though they're hungry, which he is.

Ty.Please read my email again very carefully.I said he doesn't have that.I also said cat's go by smell and if he can't smell it can affect his eating.Did your vet let you know Convenia stays in the body for 65 days? And that cats have died from it.?There is no antidote. You may want to google Convenia is it worth the risk by Dr.Pierson.Of course your boy doesn't have cancer. That is ridiculous. Please read more carefully.I often am very bad at  scanning over emails very quickly. Then you see the big "C" & all heck breaks loose.I Gotta stop doing that.Hugs To Enzo.C

Haha no worries! I didn't know that about Convenia although someone on here did mention I should get probiotics as it stays in the system for over 60 days. Scary stuff and the vet didn't tell me. I'm hoping the stuffiness clears up and he goes back to eating; my fear is what could be wrong if he doesn't. But as I said he just had a full work up and everything looked fine so I'm just Crossing my fingers it's just the URI. He has an appetite which is promising, just when you put the food in front of him he won't eat.

Hi Ty.You obviously love your little one very much.I apologize if my thread was not clear.Convenia designed for the skin it erks me that vets don't say btw I can give your kitty this but there have been a few cases of deaths. And it stays in the body for 65 days and there's no way of getting it out.I don't know if it affects the gut flora as I have always said NO to convenia.Your symptology & I belong to a lot of the yahoo groups. In fact I think all of them. When a cat or kitten is nauseous this is what they will almost always do.They seem hungry. They walk up to the bowl ,sniff, some try to cover it up then walk away.Your baby is having trouble sniffing. Now is your kitty nauseous??The only way to know for sure is give an anti nausea med like cerenia.Note this is cerenia not convenia.Big difference .Ondanestron also works excellent. It is a human drug used for chemo patients dealing with nausea.Used highly all over the kitty world. Are you still going with the babyfood? if so there is no taurine in it.I would recommend you do pick up a couple of cans of A/D & Mix 1/2 & 1/2.At least your baby will be getting the taurine it needs. You can buy bulk taurine but I don't know the dosing.maybe someone here does.I remember when my boy went off food i went to petsmart & bought a smorgasboard of every brand, flavor etc.Nothing.Not a lick.i always bought two of each just in case I hit on one I'd have another.Any no goes I kept my receipt & returned them back to petsmart for a refund..Appetite stimulant did nothing.Any lip smacking or anything like that? I'm hoping the meds will kick in quickly & get your little one back to good health & eating fudz all on his own.Enzo Italian. Are you italian? Hugs Cindy

Sometimes, it just takes time.  I know that you want to see an improvement rapidly, but the body has to do a lot of the healing on its own.  When we adopted Hannah, she came down with a terrible URI which turned into a very nasty case of the cat flu which required 4 days at the vet's office.  They thought she'd die the first night because she was so ill, malnourished, and had other conditions (fleas, worms, etc).  Once we brought her home, she lived in our isolation room with the vaporizer running 24/7 for a month.  There were mornings I'd go in and expect to find her passed away because she was so congested and so sick.  I can't tell you the number of medications she was on.  Suffice to say, I was on a first name basis with the receptionists at the vet's office because I called at least twice a week.  We started working on her nutrition (she was 7 mos old and weighed 4 lbs, then lost weight being sick) and that really helped, but it just took time for her body to develop the resources to fight the infection.  She slept A LOT.  If we weren't in the room with her, she was sleeping.  Even if we were in the room with her, she would fall asleep.  She didn't even play and barely moved when we were in with her.  I learned to celebrate the small things like she ate more food at a time or she walked to the door when we came in or she started cleaning herself. I learned we had to let the meds work, but we also had to let her body recover and fight the infection as well.

Nope, not Italian =) my husband likes cars and the guy who makes Ferrari I believe is named Enzo. He like our fingers but won't lick at the food. He was given an injection fir nauseousness when all of this started. Force feeding is becoming so stressful on all of us. I did grab some cans of a/d he seems to hate it and spit most of it out. I could try mixing 1/2 and 1/2 but I don't know how that'll taste.

BTW loss of appetite is one of the possible side effects of Convenia, another reason why Iwould not want to use it on a very sick cat.  It is very important that he gets some kind of nourishment.  Cats cannot go for more than a couple of days without eating without having side effects that upset the liver.  You could always use a home formula liquid used to save orphan kittens.  It would give him enough nourishment to keep going for a few more days.  You can find it here:

If he wont eat you may have to consider a temporary feeding tube.  Here is a good article -- it's not as scary as it looks and gets them through the tough part.

Those articles were great, thank you! He goes back To the vet tomorrow and I was planning on asking her at what point a feeding tube would be advised. I know we're getting in as much as we can with syringe feeding but I'm sure it's not quite enough. I probably don't even want to know what the tube will cost, but we'll find a way!

Hi Ty & Enzo.

Yes syringe feeding is a very time consuming job.But food is life.I agree with Red Dog as well.Try the BF with A/d.Because he was already eating the BF just add some A/D to it and gradually add more.I belong to the assisted feeding group @ yahoo. They have all kinds of ideas/knowledge of getting calories into your babe.Don't give up or he will give up.They know all about feeding tubes etc ,flushing them all to do with assist feeding and may likely have an idea about your Boy & how to help his actual illness.Great that convenia causes inappetance.Hmm.If you were given something for nausea how long ago was that?.Very likely Cerenia.I am not sure how long the injection form works. But this group will for sure.Pls post New Member in lge words Urgent Enzo Won't eat!!!.Ok? Well the nausea meds only lasted for 24 hours. I'm thinking he has post nasal drip which could be causing the nausea And/or affecting his appetite. My poor husband is the one who does most of the feeding and it's been very stressful on both him and Enzo. I think I'll inquire about when I should start considering a tube for feeding. Do you happen to have any idea on cost for such a procedure? Thank you so much for all of your help!

No I don't know as there are two different types of tubes.I would join that group I emailed you asap. They will know everything.Cost.What type would be recommended.Flushing it.All the precautions that go with it.i also would certainly give him lysine.I used L-Lysine in gel form in a tube.Any vet's office. You can add it to the back side of your syringe of meat.Stir with a turkey skewer, then put the plunger back in the syringe.Lysine is an absolutely excellent product. It will not hurt Enzo at all.Upper respiratory or immune deficiency symptoms they use it big time.kitties who are having chemo(which suppresses the immune system) take at least 500 mg per day.It is not a drug. You can Dr.google it.It is an amino acid.Pls join the FAF group if you are considering a tube or want ideas of getting food into him..There is alot to know.No it is not as scarey as it looks or sounds & can be a life saver. But there are members there that have been there forever.Their expertise is unreal.Things a vet will never tell you.Things that you learned as you went along with your cat. What groups are for sharing & receiving things you never heard ever come out of a vet's mouth.Alot of these people on this group should have DR. in front of their name but with compassion.HTH Honey C.

I will definitely join the site and I ordered lysine in powder form to mix with water earlier today. I just keep praying he suddenly starts eating but it's starting to look like this may take awhile to clear up =(
