Does anyone know what kind of a skin rash this is?

Is it just on his face or elsewhere on his body? Does he happen to have any fleas? I ask because one of mine is this way, except its all around his tail if he catches fleas, its not the actual bite but his reaction to it and his picking at it.

A vet is needed for a diagnosis. My kitty would get lesions like that on his nose and lips when he was His herpes would become symptomatic.

He's got 2 on his face, and 1 on the back of his head. This was the only 1 I could get a clear enough picture to post. He doesn't have fleas, that was the 1st thing the vet checked for.

What caused his Herpes? The vet didn't say anything about Herpes so I'm not sure that's what's causing this on Midnight.

Hard to say from a picture, but I would be suspicious this was eosinophilic granuloma complex. This is due to an autoimmune/inflammatory reaponse. The trigger than be anything from environmental to food allergies. I've had 2 cats with EGC that was associated with food allergies.

Also, even if there were no sign of fleas, one single flea bite an lead to sores like this. So, I would suggest 3 consecutive months of flea treatment just to rule this out.

Well I'd rely on what you vet tells you Because they are the experts. I'm not sure what caused his herpes he must have picked it up Somewhere perhaps another member who has more education about the condition can chime in. My cat bob would get the flare ups at times of stress when either he escaped out the back door or something changed in the household. Lysine supplement to his diet prevented the flare ups.

The lesions are not from Herpes. Sometimes herpes kitties can get them around their eyes, mouth and nose. Perla can get small sores around her eyes once in awhile from her herpetic flares. I am sure since your vet has seen Midnight a couple of times for treatment then I feel good about ruling out Ringworm/Mange or mites because your vet would have wanted to run a culture or do a scraping for mites. So we can rule those out, I assume. I have no clue what could be causing these lesions. Maybe allergies? Environmental or Food? SO very hard to detect exactly what could be the culprit. Takes detective work to get to the bottom of it especially if it is food allergy. There are limited ingredient diets out there to try. :dk: I am sure your vet is treating this problem correctly but you could ask about allergies.

That's the problem, she couldn't tell if it was an allergy to foid or something in the environment, or if it even was caused by an allergy.

Ask the vet about Mupiricin ointment. I have this on hand and use it for wounds such as this on the pets and on us!!! This helped so much when Pipsqueak has terrible sores from chin acne a few years back. Did wonder's. Also, on a terrible bug bite on Howard recently. ASK your vet - the ointment is for many types of bacterial skin infections. It may or may not be the fix but doesn't hurt to ask. The ointment says for dogs BUT vets use it on cats too.

I know this was over a year ago but I'm having the same problems with one of my furbabies. Is Midnight better? Did u find out what it was? My kitty has been having skin issues for a year now. It got so bad this past month I had to agree to give her predizone pills. She's been on them since last Wednesday. But she seem so sad now... but at least she stopped scratching her self.
