We have two cats that we have had for about a month. I bought a large bag of Nutro Max Natural kitten food and they will NOT touch it. Our male cat Zach had been on Purina Kitten Chow at the shelter and I tried mixing in the Nutro with it, he will not eat it. While I was gone on a trip, my husband bought some Purina ONE and he loved it! I don't want him eating that though, because it does have some byproducts in it. I got a free bag of Authority when I adopted them so I put some of that down and they really chowed it!

I've found two medium priced foods and I'm having a hard time deciding between them. They are Authority and Maxximum Nutrition.
These are the first 6 ingredients from each of the foods:

AUTHORITY:

chicken meal
brewer's rice
corn gluten meal
animal fat preserved with Vitamin E
chicken
ground corn

MAXXIMUM NUTRITION:

chicken
chicken meal
brewer's rice
fish meal
corn gluten meal
beef tallow preserved with mixed tocopherols

To me it seems as if the Maxximum Nutrition has better ingredients because it has 3 meats or meat meals.

Thoughts, anyone?

IMO Authority is much better than Maxximum Nutrition. My cats were eating Authority Lamb and Rice, they did awesome on it!

From my understanding... while pet food companies have to adhere to their nutrition analysis, they don't have to adhere to their ingredient list as long as they meet the nutrition analysis on their package, so basing your decision on just the ingredient list can sometimes be futile.

Both of those are about the same really, why not buy a bag of each and see which one the cats like and do better with?

I have fed mine both, but they liked the Authority better I think. They are on Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul now and the really like it so I'm sticking to that for now.

My vet said Authority is very good and our cats like them all EXCEPT the Fish and Rice. Not sure why!

Leo was on Authority Kitten when I first adopted him. Now I feed him a variety of things and luckily he is not pitcky about food. I always though that the Maxx stuff was better though. At least it is more expensive

Why not buy a bag of each and see which one your cat prefers/does best on? I have no personal experience with either food, but the only way you'll know if your cat will do well on a food is to try it.
