My Baby feral and his mom, Pretty, both tested negative for Giardia, TWICE.

I am still doubtful since I know it is often difficult to detect, and the odor and consistency

of the stool is typical of giardia.

However doubtful I am, I am also trying a change in diet, chicken and rice (like our canine friends),

and today, first day, seems better already.

Does anyone know what else besides giardia could cause the foul odor of the stool, and

what type of diet would help? (Giardia sufferers know that highly offensive, distinct - stink!)

I wouldn't be able to treat them anyway, since I can't handle them yet.

You might try ordering some S. boulardii WITHOUT the MOS from Amazon and adding it to their food.  (The MOS that is in most of the human preparations tastes bitter and most cats will not eat it, but the plain S. boulardii can be mixed with food.)  That seems to clear up a lot of things ferals have that cause that distinctive foul odor and/or loose stools.  Its a probiotic derived from yeast, will not harm them, and you can search for the word on here to find more about it.

Top Red!  Sorry, I never knew s.Boulardii was in brewers yeast!

I sometimes take it and gave them some, but I don't know how much to give them..

I think I read I teaspoon twice a day.

WebMD and Cornell animal advisory recommend it.

S. boulardii is not IN brewer's yeast, it is CLOSELY RELATED to brewer's yeast, and NOT related to the type of yeast that includes candida (a "bad" yeast).  As for giardia testing, often it takes several tests or a combination of tests to find it.  I'm not sure if your vet uses fecal flotation, the Snap test, or a combination of those.
