My almost 15 year old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroid this summer, she is taking pills so it is under control. Lately she has  been distant from people ,she does't interact with me much, does't sleep in my bed anymore just stays in her favorite box. She eats fine and everything but I just miss her so much ,she always been so loving and near me all the time. We have vet appointment next week for teeth cleaning, doctor recommended an extraction of one tooth, so I don't know maybe her tooth is giving her trouble and she is not in the mood? Is she just old,is it her medication?  I miss my old kitty .Anyone has any experience with such behavior ,let me know.

It could be that the pain of the tooth is causing this behavior.  Has she been acting like this since you started her on the thyroid meds or is this a new development?

Having dental issues can definitely affect kitty's behavior; I am glad you are getting her in to have this looked at.  I would also hope your vet is going to do bloodwork, with hyperthyroid, you want to check at least every couple of months if your kitty is on Tapazole.  Also, my Tiger didn't react favorably on Tapazole, I opted for the I-131 treatment.

Thank you ladies, the behavior started recently so maybe is not the medication. Now she will be taking a pill for her tooth, recommended by vet, for 7days until tooth is gone. Hope this will help if she has any discomfort in her mouth .
