Hi everyone! I have a 14 year old cat diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 2-3 years ago. He is on medication for it, but it is hard to get him to take the medication. We've tried the pills in his food, chicken flavored drops in his food, and gel behind his ears. He will sometimes eat the food, but when we tried the gel, he would hide every single time he saw me coming. He's getting thinner and thinner, and lately he has become lethargic and he's breathing is changing. I'm really worried. We have an appointment with the vet first thing tomorrow, but I'm trying to prepare myself if the vet thinks we need to euthanize him. We just had our sweet Sasha (a dog) put down 2 weeks ago. Our hearts are breaking at the thought of having to do this again so soon. Has anyone dealt with this?

If he will eat it there is a prescription diet that can treat it without medications in many cases, Hill's Y/D.  And if you can afford it, there is the radiactive iodine treatment which is a complete cure.
