Mocha is a six year old Tortoiseshell mix. I adopted her almost two weeks ago. She was scheduled to be euthanized the day that I was contacted by a shelter, so decided that I just had to take her home with me. She was extremely shy and nervous at first, but she is slowly coming out of her shell. She loves for me to pet her. When I stop petting her, she takes one of her paws and pets me to remind me to keep petting her!

Ahh she's beautiful- sounds like she's found her happy ending! What is her story - did they know where she came from?

Ahhh she is lucky you saved her!  Maybe thats why she wants you to keep petting her is she wants the reassurance that you still think she is a soft sweet prescious kitty and that you are not going to turn on her like the shelter did.

Cats know these things.

Thank you so much! From what I understand both she and her sister (a tuxedo cat) were taken to a shelter by a woman who had 3 children. I don't know why they were given up or how long they were in a shelter. But my application was on file at a different shelter. My shelter was notified of this emergency situation, and then I was contacted. Both Mocha and her sister were adopted, thankfully! Her sister seemed to be more social, but Mocha has a sweet personality. She is just so nervous and scared at times. When my doorbell rings, she bolts and hides in the bathroom. She has warmed up to me though. :)

She is so pretty and sweet looking.  She is so lucky to have found you.  In time, she will settle down and not be so nervous.  Her life is so good now, she is still adjusting to accepting that she does not have to live on the edge so to speak.  She is no longer in a shelter but a loving home.  So glad she has taken to you right away.  Reading that tells me the rest will come, all in good time.  I doubt that she will be bolting out of the room at the sound of a doorbell always, and if I am wrong, oh well.  Congratulations on your new girl!!

Sometimes I wouldn't mind if my cats left the room when someone was at the door... If she bolts when the doorbell rings, you don't  have to worry about her trying to get out when you open the door, and it is unlikely she will be all over your guests.  We don't have many guests these days, but my prior cats have always enjoyed guests and were very persistent in becoming better acquainted.

Most of my friends are crazy cat people, but not all.

Thanks everyone! It's so true that I don't have to worry about her trying to run and escape out of the door when anyone visits me! :) :)

I have had Midi for over 8 years, In all the places I lived with him I never had a doorbell. When I am watching tv and a door bell sound is made, he looks at the my front door a little anxiously. I guess his previous owner had one.

Thanks! Someone else mentioned the same thing about her mask to me LOL! She is definitely unique-looking! Here is the latest picture of Mocha relaxing in the livingroom. [emoji]128008[/emoji][emoji]128049[/emoji][emoji]9786[/emoji]
