I'm adopting a male kitten in a few days and he's gonna to spayed a day or two before I pick him up. I've never had a cat before, and am a bit worried that he's going to hurt himself. Is getting him a bodysuit just to make sure he doesn't get the area infected a good idea, or should I just stick with the cone?

You said a male kitten so this was castration?  If so I don't think it will be an issue.  My male was neutered when he was 6 months old and there were no issues and I didn't use a cone or anything.  It is a minimally invasive procedure.

By the time you bring him home, he should be over the side effects of the neutering (female cats are spayed) so you should be good.

I'm laughing as when I read the title I thought you meant a bodysuit for yourself!   I know kittens can be very playful but I didn't think you needed to go to that extreme.

As for the real question, yes, what the others said.  It's a very simple operation for boys.

I have two male cats and both of them recovered extremely fast after being neutered. I think the younger they are the easier it is on them. The youngest age vets recommend neutering where I live (Sweden) is three months. We got our boys done at four and nine months, both of them were back to their regular routines within a day. No cone of shame or bodysuits necessary, I imagine that would only be required if your kitty won't stop licking his stitches or experiences some kind of complication.
