Cat eating fast, then vomiting

Help! My cat Rhett is healthy and playful. However, he occasionally vomits after eating. The vet says he eats too fast. I tried all the usual things - putting things in his dish to slow him down, etc. None worked. I finally found something that worked for awhile. Instead of feeding him once or twice a day, I now feed him very small meals 4 times a day. He gets a rounded teaspoon of good quality canned food, heated slightly. He always has good quality kibble in his dish and plenty of water. The vomiting slowed down quite a bit, but now he is doing it again - 3 times this month.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

My Chula has the same problem and it seems nothing I've tried works. I'm starting to look into food allergies - it might be worth checking this out for Rhett as well. I'm going to keep a food diary for awhile to see if there is a pattern.

I have bought one can of Royal Canin to try it out ($2.49 + tax!). If it works it's worth it.

I had no idea Royal Canin was so expensive. Wow!

I also feed 4 small meals a day and, like with Rhett it worked for awhile.

If he always has kibble available, it could be that at times he gorges on that, and then throws it (or regurgitates it) up.  If it's coming back up pretty fast, and it's not looking digested at all, then it might be regurgitated vs actually vomited.  AND, if that's the case, does it look like the kibble or the canned?  AND, if it looks like the kibble, then maybe you need to use an "eat slow bowl" with the kibble, or are you already. 

If none of the above is the case, then I would definitely look at the food, both canned AND kibble.  Good Quality doesn't necessarily mean there couldn't be something in there that disagrees with him.  Many cats even have problems with chicken.  since this IS only happening occasionally, I think keeping a food diary is a good idea, that way you can try to narrow it down as to whether's he's eating a certain food each time, unless the first paragraph applied

You could try always refrigerating the food so its "thicker" and flattening it in the bowl.  

What is the brand and flavor that he's eating?  Is he wolfing it down?

My cat Diamond can't eat certain dry foods ( Max cat & indoor blue buffalo) . I have to feed her Sensative Systems Purina One which isn't the best food but she keeps it down and it doesn't give her diarrhea. The canned Friskies Indoor hasn't given her any problems it's the only canned food she will eat. Just have to feed them what agrees with their stomach I guess.

Is he throwing up after eating dry food or wet food?  Are you feeding him anything with fish in it?  Some cats can't tolerate processed fish in foods.

The only thing that works 100% of the time for me is feeding very smal frequent meals. I know you're already feeding 4 times, but would it be possible to feed more than that? Good luck!

Has your vet ruled out an issue with the valve leading into the stomach ? At the end of the esophagus?

I had a cat who regularly vomited her food. Dry made it worse. I know suspect she had an issue with that valve, though she died of cancer at a young age, so I suppose it could have been FIV or even FIL.
