Hi would be grateful for some advice on this as its a long time since I've had a kitten and have not had a cat with this problem before. My kitten is 15 weeks old and I've had him for 2 1/2 weeks now. The first few days his tummy was upset - took him to the vet who said he had a slight rectal prolapse from tummy upset and prescribed canicur pro, hills ID pouches and told me to put sudocreme on his bum to soothe it. This worked really well and cleared things up in a few days. His prolapse now only comes out slightly when he emptied his bowels. He was completely clean for the following 9 days with no medication and back on his normal food. I think it was a stress reaction because my brother came round on Saturday with his 3 kids who scared him and his tummy was upset again - leaky bum with poo dribbles he didn't seem able to control.
I settled this by Sunday because I knew what to do from the previous time & he's been fine this week but this morning I noticed a little drop of poo on the carpet but then found he'd just used his litter tray. What was in the tray looked quite firm though. Is this something that will settle down completely with time? He's fine in himself - lively, playing, eating drinking and sleeping. Anyone else had any experience with this?

I'm sorry to see there were no responses on this.  How is your kitty doing now?

Thanks for the reply. He's doing better thanks. I took him in for neutering on Friday and was expecting an upset tummy afterwards but he's been fine. His prolapse has healed up too. I'm finding that if I stick to the same portions & feed the same food at the same times each day he's ok. He's an absolute dustbin tho - will eat anything he can get hold of so I've got to be quite vigilant about cleaning the kitchen floor immediately after cooking etc. he's got a great personality and is a lovely lapcat really glad I've got him [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

Oh I'm glad to hear he's okay.  Sounds like you've got figured out what kind of routine he needs to stay healthy.  It's good to get him into a routine early in life, too, so that he won't learn to beg for food while you're cooking and things like that.

(We have one that we call "garbage-gut" because he's always begging for food!)
